Book of the Month Activity. Read With Jane Website. Thursday, February 24, 2011. Why did I start writing this blog? Children should be able to read simple books by the end of Kindergarten. Making sure that children can read on grade level by the end of second grade is critical for their future development. Everything depends on it, self-confidence, future careers, and being able to succeed in school. It is such a small thing, but necessary for future success. How much is too much? How much is not enough?

I work with struggling readers to help them acquire literacy skills. This is done by following the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is a phonics-based, multisensory, structured language program. Lessons build on what students know, providing them the experience of success. All learning pathways to the brain (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic-tactile) are incorporated into lessons to facilitate learning. All concepts are taught directly and reinforced to the stage of mastery. 50 per 55-minute session.
