I (heart) chicken!: May 2013

Thursday, May 30, 2013. Well, hubby and I thought it would be fun if we documented the start of the whole chicken raising process that we are going through. We recently built the brooder, this is where they will spend their first month or so. Then we will build a nursery/breeder, and then the real coop (which will be movable around the yard as well as when we move from the house we are renting). The Brooder turned out amazing! The top is done! We decided to paint it green. I hate painting. The pa...Oh ye...

Sunday, June 8, 2014. Planet Earth worm project part 1. So, I'm taking an online Planet Earth geography class and its pretty interesting so far! I'm going to learn all sorts of cool things so you might get some weird facts (I might as well, its something interesting to blog about and I'm pretty excited! Like these two: first, did you know that worms are not a native species to the United States and that they actually can hurt the forest floor by being there and doing their thing? We had to get the longit...

Sunday, June 30, 2013. Chicken adventures: Happy Hatch Day! Well, today the chicks are one month old! But first, something I don't think I have ever seen before! I was making some chocolate chip cookies (YUM), cracked an egg in the bowl and found: A double yolker! And, no, I'm not yolking! I know, lame joke, but I couldn't resist! You can kind of see the crease between them where they didn't separate properly.interesting! And yes, I was so excited I had to take a picture. In memory of Marsha as well).

I've got my list of things I'm going to eat when they are off all ready! Hubby is doing really good, he's been working hard!

Friday, August 23, 2013. Not) Busy Days.and Microsoft Excel. Well, it has been an exciting and very busy last few days.(not really). Yesterday we had a huge rain storm which was really really needed! Its so good that it rained, but the wind blew a whole lot! I don't think the chickens understood what was happening because when it started raining real good the chickens were still out standing in the rain, so as it was pouring I shooed them into the coop. Otherwise they probably would've drowned! We bought...

Monday, September 30, 2013. Mole Patrol and Fall pictures. This one has a mound that hubby stamped on). I never in my wildest dreams thought that we would be dealing with moles. And I can completely understand the phrase "making mountains out of molehills." The other night when we were working on the nesting boxes for the chicken coop, I ran to the shop to get something and noticed all sorts of little tunnels under the ground. This one is really teasing us well! I'll keep you updated. Oh oh oh oh oh!

Wednesday, July 2, 2014. I've made just too much jam in the last week or two! Is that possible though? Is it possible to have toooooo much? So, after some arrangements we went over and we picked a whole lot of them! And really, while I have good intentions, I'm not likely to eat them, which is disappointing. So.I made some yummy freezer jam! I found a neat blog about it, but I can't seem to find it now.disappointing! Here is the kind of pectin I used, its just regular all natural blah blah blah. This is ...
