Respond With Love

Saturday, September 6, 2008. HelpMy Kid Just Exploded. This response was born out of both the child's tantrum, and the fact that while he was raging, there was no getting through to him. Kids need skills. If they have no skills, they act on pure emotion, and clearly, different kids have a different range of emotion. We described the anger together: "It is a tightening. I feel it start in my toes, and work up to my belly, and come flying out my fists and mouth.". We then talked about solutions. I taug...

Respond With Love: April 2008

http://www.respondwithlovetoday.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 3, 2008. I'm really getting in the groove of listening more. Not surprisingly, when I am quiet, I really. What my kids need, and therefore, I am not plagued by communication failure. My plan to listen more this month is working. For example: I might ask my son to do something. Then, I ask the following question to make sure he is on board: "Do you understand what I am asking? Do you need more instruction? Can I get something for you? Would it be helpful to you if? OR to undermine a young ...

Respond With Love: July 2008

http://www.respondwithlovetoday.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 7, 2008. Hang onto your hats.the terrific twos have arrived! I've just been on vacation again, which I love, and low and behold, my daughter has decided to exercise her independence and her lungs (which incidentally work very well). I remember well with the boys that age three was much more challenging than age two. So, I have been under the mistaken impression that I had over a year left before the true roller coaster ride began. Yeah.not so much. It happened so quickly! When did it end?

Respond With Love: March 2008

Tuesday, March 25, 2008. I Can Really Only Change Myself. Some of this is actually quite accurate. I recognized the depth of my frustration though, when I started seeing even their requests for food and snacks as an imposition. So, who changes? The kids are working with limited skills and life experience. It's going to be up to me. I'm often amazed at how quickly they adapt to my bad mood by matching it. I'm having a bad day? But that was my favorite broken toy! And my ten-year-old fades into the backgro...

Thursday, June 19, 2008. Sibling Harmony and Sharing. My own kids were playing together and the sharing war ensued complete with tears. It was then, that I turned to one of them and said, "It is your turn now. When you are done, your brother would like a turn." Silence.no tears.simply agreement. Keep in mind these kids were around one and three. It was magic! I tried it a few times over the course of the day. It worked every time. I tried it at playgroup. Success! Sibling Harmony - Part Two. After severa...

Little Moments in Life: December 2008

http://little-moments-in-life.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Little Moments in Life. Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Guess my chickens are thanking me for keeping them warm and giving them a nice warm breakfast! Yesterday, I let down their ramp and a lonely egg rolled down. While I was going to get Steven to get it, I came back to find the chickens eating it. YUCK! I was disappointed and really hoped this wouldn't become a habit. Links to this post. Monday, December 22, 2008. I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas! We have all had a great time playing in the snow! Little Moments in Life. Monday, June 2, 2008. What a great weekend! A couple of weeks ago Pete had told me he was going to take me somewhere for my birthday (yesterday). I loved the anticipation, he doesn't often surprise me, so this was a real treat. Saturday, I took the kids to Gramma's and we headed out to the Lake Quinault Resort ( http:/ www.lakequinault.com/. This is truly a lovely place, very tranquil and relaxing. We had stayed here about 6 years ago and it was just as great then as it is now.

Little Moments in Life. Sunday, April 27, 2008. Mom: Oh finally your tooth came out. How did you loose your tooth? Steven: Well, I was chewing on a piece of gum and I stuck it to a thumb tack in the wall and when I bit down on the tack my tooth came out. Mom: (shaking my head and laughing) Really, where is your tooth now? Steven: I don't know I couldn't fine it. However, I don't think she is that mean. Hahahaha! Links to this post. Three-Ring Zoo: How to Get Kids to Eat KALE!

http://threeringzoo.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-get-kids-to-eat-kale.html

Tuesday, June 9, 2009. How to Get Kids to Eat KALE! No one ever really believes me when I say my kids eat kale, spinach and collards without gagging to death. Even my middle child, who generally does not eat anything green. Therefore, I have fully documented how to do it - the secret is that you have them cook it! Next, the kids toss the kale with a little olive oil. Notice the parental hand helping the three-year-old with this step to avoid a flood. I roast the kale in the oven at 425*, checking it and ...

Three-Ring Zoo: July 2008

http://threeringzoo.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, July 9, 2008. If the shoe fits. I have not taken very many good pictures since we got the new camera. Hopefully, I'll have time to read the manual and figure the darn thing out sometime soon. Now, being high-strung and melodramatic isn't really a character trait we want to encourage in our little girl,. But some things just can't be helped. This is the kid that screams bloody murder for the slightest owie. Instead of a hem. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). If the shoe fits.
