Heading Out: Advice for Newbies. Tuesday, November 11, 2014. THANK YOU to ALL who served, serve or will serve! Back in Ecuador - Part One. Sunday, November 2, 2014. We had a fairly uneventful trip back to Ecuador.no hassles with the rental car, drop-off or check-in. We had five footlockers running between 55-65# each, plus one rolling duffle at around 40#. We spent our wait time in the Admiral's Club and the plane left on time! Saga continued on our Ecuador blog. Retired in Cuenca.

Donna B. McNicol, Author. Saturday, July 25, 2015. Thank you to Scott William Carter. I'm taking a little time off from my blog to assess the effectiveness of my time spent blogging as well as my newsletter. I am also going to revamp my website and while that isn't time spent writing, it is overdue. I hope you will bear with me and check back from time to time to see how I am doing in this process. Thank you for understanding! Donna B. McNicol. Donna B. McNicol. Wednesday, July 22, 2015. The sound of thu...

Donna B. McNicol, Author. Thursday, April 30, 2015. Z is a funny letter, one that we don't use too much. I see it most often used to designate sleeping. So my final post in this year's A-Z challenge will be about sleep. I have a Jawbone UP 24. And I really like it. Lightweight, doesn't make me sweat under it and it reminds me when I need to get up and move. Insomnia - when writers work." DB McNicol. Donna B. McNicol. Donna B. McNicol. Wednesday, April 29, 2015. Donna B. McNicol, Author. Saturday, May 30, 2015. Lost in the 50s Tonight. I was chatting the other day via email with a new friend. I mentioned that the great weather this past weekend brought to mind the song, Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer. I didn't remember who sang it but the tune was stuck in my head. He wrote back that it was Nat King Cole who happened to be one of my mother's favorite singers. A couple of songs stick in my mind to this day:. Tex Ritter and T he Red Deck of Cards. Ya say its 4 a...

Heading Out: Advice for Newbies. Friday, February 27, 2015. I know we still have some folks that haven't moved over to our new blog, Retired in Cuenca. So wanted to share the news here, too. I've had a short story published in the premiere issue of a local magazine for expats. I had fun writing this little tongue-in-cheek short mystery and hope everyone enjoys reading it. You can view it online or when on the page to view it, at the bottom you should see a SHARE link. Click that and choose DOWNLOAD.

Retired In Austin
Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Things that go beep in the night. We've all experienced the beep in the night. For some reason the middle of the night is the time that the smoke detector battery chooses to inform you that it's dying. There's no ignoring it. Just when you decide that it's not going to go off again and you are about to drift back to sleep, it beeps. Again. Persistently. Endlessly. And close in on the source. Good luck with that. The house alarm system keypad. Had to make a trip to the elec...

Retired in Delaware
The life and fabulous times of a retired gay man in southern Delaware. Thursday, August 13, 2015. Please Take Your Shoes Off. Bill and I always take our shoes off before we enter our house. We ask guests who enter our house to take their shoes off. The reason we do this is because the bottom of people's shoes are dirty and we don't want that filth in the house. Two days ago we had a new air conditioning and heater unit installed in our house, which is mostly wall to wall carpeted. When I encountered ...
