The training journal of a re-rider learning dressage with a couple OTTBs. Details about Maddie (JC name La Cheryl). October 8, 2012. This picture taken by Caitlin pretty much sums up my day. We were at the show, but missing from action. The problem began with a tippy mounting block, which tipped as I stepped up into the iron. I got a bit hung up and am so glad my friend Brittany was holding Derby, limiting how far he could go with me clinging like a monkey to his side. I was bitterly, bitterly disappoint...

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Rock Bottom, With Hope →. Cold Day Transformation Inspiration. January 7, 2015. I seems to me that so many people think dressage is something that horses are born for, which in many cases is absolutely true, but so few anymore realize that where dressage came from was a method of developing a horse into what some of them are born with today. If you have the budget and desire, by all means buy one of these born for dressage horses! And let me know what you think!

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Spring is in the Air →. Good News Vet Visit. March 26, 2014. Under Rides on Liam. Usually having the vet out is not cause for any sort of happiness, best case scenario is that it’s not too expensive, and worst case is that something’s really, really wrong! Hopefully the left hock will follow suit…. She speculated that it might have finally finished fusing, which would be great for him! Now the hard part will be giving him a few days off until he can go back to wor...

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Newer posts →. Slowly but Surely Some Progress. December 21, 2015. Things are going well at the new barn, and I feel like a year of some crazy life changes is drawing to an end and setting up for a quieter 2016. The riding time has still been less consistent than I would have preferred, but it’s still been an improvement over what I had previously. And finally one BIG piece has fallen into place, Derick and I got married! He was more, what shall we call it? In any...

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Dedication, Passion, and Excellence. Signs of Spring →. February 26, 2014. After another night of working in single digit temperatures, I was ready to forget it all and move somewhere warm, until Remy reminded me that it’s the little things that make my job so fun and rewarding. I’ve never known another horse that appreciates scratches as much as Remy! Hope these make you smile too! I don’t know how anyone could look at his goofy faces and not smile🙂. Fill in you...

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Austin is a Valentine Pony for Lindsay. Dedication, Passion, and Excellence →. February 23, 2014. Under Rides on Remy. It’s Remy’s birthday! He’s 8 now, all grown up! How did I get so lucky? What are the boys planning now? I’m pretty sure there is some sort of plan. I have ideas of course. I’m hoping to get him out this year and work towards some big goals. But I always get the feeling with him that he has some goals of his own too. Well, happy birthday Remy!

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Remy’s First Show of the Season. Dance Lessons →. Schooling for the Soggy Show. August 24, 2014. I really wanted to keep the momentum going. Suddenly, it got dark outside and I heard thunder in the distance. Then the light pitter-patter of rain starting to fall. Shoot! Better go get Liam before he gets too wet! Indoor arena, complete with small pond. Remy looks pleased after a fun ride. So much sand-splatter everywhere! Oh well, it was worth it. It was fun fin...
