Daily Rhetoric

Tales of Dread and Industrial Blight. Tuesday, December 11, 2007. Well I go away for a while and all hell breaks loose. Oprah on the campaign trail with Obama, Hillary on the ropes for the first time, Huckabee making a serious bid for the nomination on the coat tails of Chuck Norris.am I conscious? Or have I somehow quantum tunneled into a parallel universe? Added to all this, the writers strike is depriving me of my nightly regimen of Paris Hilton and Larry Craig jokes. Oh, the trials I must endure!

Daily Rhetoric: Petrodollars vs. Petroeuros

http://www.rhetoricforyou.blogspot.com/2007/08/petrodollars-vs-petroeuros.html

Tales of Dread and Industrial Blight. Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Petrodollars vs. Petroeuros. Remember when the saber rattling against Iran began last year? Iran had been threatening to convert their oil from petrodollars to petroeuros. This would mean that the euro, which has been gaining on the dollar steadily over the past few years, would be strengthened even more at the dollar's expense. Oil is the biggest business on the planet and Iran is one of the main suppliers. So what does this all add up to?

Daily Rhetoric: I-Am-A-Lazy-Sonofabitch, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Condoleeza Rice

http://www.rhetoricforyou.blogspot.com/2007/10/i-am-lazy-sonofabitch-or-how-i-learned.html

Tales of Dread and Industrial Blight. Saturday, October 20, 2007. I-Am-A-Lazy-Sonofabitch, Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Condoleeza Rice. I haven't posted in eons, because I've been busy practicing my nostril flaring in the bathroom mirror. I figure it's important to know how to give a really good nostril flare. Hillary Clinton is going to be the Democratic nominee, and this fills me with a nameless dread. Why? Run by the CIA and maybe Paul Wellstone was. I bought a xylophone. This is v...

Daily Rhetoric: The Industrial Revolution Will Not Be Televised

Tales of Dread and Industrial Blight. Monday, August 13, 2007. The Industrial Revolution Will Not Be Televised. I took these on Sunday afternoon. Some of them came out a little dark; I'm still trying to figure out how to use my camera properly. The stretch of Adamo Drive leading up to the Port of Tampa is a veritable horn o'plenty of industrial goodness. The area boasts numerous features including but not limited to: homeless people (in the spirit of the current administration let's call them. That whole...

Daily Rhetoric: Martial Law in Pakistan

http://www.rhetoricforyou.blogspot.com/2007/11/so-under-guise-of-fighting-terrorism.html

Tales of Dread and Industrial Blight. Sunday, November 4, 2007. Martial Law in Pakistan. Pakistan has declared Martial Law and dissolved the Supreme Court, in the name of fighting terrorism. To be more exact, Musharaff has done all this. I'm sure it had nothing at all to do with the imminent court decision which likely would have ruled his recent reelection invalid. Back then, under the watchful eye of his CIA/ISI masters? And now Pakistan is home to the Taliban, who were banished but not destroyed durin...

Daily Rhetoric: Politics, Artifical Sweeteners, and Zen

http://www.rhetoricforyou.blogspot.com/2007/10/david-broder-wrote-op-ed-declaring-that.html

Tales of Dread and Industrial Blight. Thursday, October 25, 2007. Politics, Artifical Sweeteners, and Zen. David Broder wrote an op-ed declaring that "it's not over for Obama." No, really? Is it more nourishing to eat three hot pockets instead of two? I submit that given the nature of modern presidential campaigning, longer is not better. Who needs an additional six months of prepackaged soundbytes, phony debates, and "expert" analysis? This just in: Clinton raised more money than Obama! I've been wonder...

Diary of a Land-Bound Pirate. In accordance with the prophesy, pour some sugar on me. Wednesday, August 29, 2007. Your daughter's a whore. Here's why. Even Christian Aguilera, who is essentially a singing stripper, does a massive amount of charity work, including work for the abused women's shelter in her home town of Pittsburg. So why don't we hear anything about the good stuff? Once again, I weep for the future. Serge A. Storms. Monday, August 27, 2007. Serge A. Storms. Thursday, August 23, 2007. The m...

Diary of a Land-Bound Pirate. In accordance with the prophesy, pour some sugar on me. Saturday, September 29, 2007. Adventures in Railway Travel. I'm in South Carolina visiting Amy. I got here via Amtrak. Long gone are the visions of yesteryear when railways were steeped in victorian grace and style. The only things that haven't changed are the Stations, and most of them I've seen are worse for wear if not in complete disrepair. The journey started simple enough. It began with a bus. The train continued,...

Diary of a Land-Bound Pirate. In accordance with the prophesy, pour some sugar on me. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. I'm pretty sure I can take a Prius in a fight. 1) Weight - The weight advantage would go to the Prius, as I'm not constructed of plastics and metals. However, I'm pretty sure that if the same thing had occured 6 months ago, I probably would have had the advantage in this category. 6) Psychology - This is pretty much a draw, mainly due to the car's inability to speak and my inability to effect...

Diary of a Land-Bound Pirate. In accordance with the prophesy, pour some sugar on me. Monday, November 26, 2007. Ok, this didn't actually happen. But it was talked about constantly as being the greatest possible high school half time show ever. Serge A. Storms. Monday, November 19, 2007. Yes, that is a very dated reference to the animated mounty, Dudley Doright. Why do I make this reference? Look for me to be making an appearance on Springer some time in the not too distant future. Where joy is eternal, for there is Nothing to harm, Nothing to remember, Nothing to regret. The thunderheads roll, and I feel the reverberation in my core. The Story Never Ends:. Musings on Social Histories of Rhetoic from Dr. Candace Epps-Robertson. This History Belongs to You and Me. July 5, 2015. July 5, 2015. It seems almost unbelievable that I could have been born and raised here and never really spent much time thinking of the Civil War, but its true. APLANG2010

Thursday, June 3, 2010. Thursday, April 29, 2010. Pilgrim at Tinker Creek - Annie Dillard. The book seems to be for nature lovers, but wouldn't the intended audience be outside, observing the world, instead of reading? My guess is that Pilgrim at Tinker Creek was mainly written for herself; Dillard had these thoughts, and wanted to organize and compile them by writing. Due to the lack of a genre, this book likely received little public attention until it won the Pulitzer Prize. Monday, March 29, 2010.
