Alamo City Crossfire: Arguments against the death penalty
http://alamocitycrossfire.blogspot.com/2004/12/arguments-against-death-penalty.html
This blog was created to debate the great issues of our day; all from the viewpoint of some local people in San Antonio, Texas. We welcome comments. Friday, December 03, 2004. Arguments against the death penalty. The death penalty is a barbaric relic of our ancient past. The fact that it is still practiced today is a measure of just how far we still are from being a truly mature society. First, and perhaps most significantly, are the countless studies. Some of this cost is due to the lengthy appeals proc...

Bible Reader: October 2010
http://biblereader87.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
A 21st Century Christian reads the Bible. Sunday, October 24, 2010. Nobody gets any respect! Everybody is disrespecting everyone else in Genesis 31 and the one getting dissed the most seems to be God. Yet, he doesn't seem to be the slightest bit upset about it. Earlier in the Bible (and later) God has shown a propensity for violence when being dissed. But not this time. And then we have this strange interaction between Laban and God after he finds out that Jacob has split. God tells Laban in a dream ...

Homo Domesticus: August 2006
http://domesticus.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html
The Life and Times of a Stay-At-Home Dad. Wednesday, August 30, 2006. Last week, you read about why Jacob got a new bike. This week may be about why I. I got about 100 yards before it fell off. I went to Lowes in search of the proper flange bolt. I found one that seemed right, but the fit was a bit funny. I was afraid to force the thing, and it was also looking like a special tool might be needed to do the job properly. So my attempt at self-repair was stymied. So I wound up at the place I had wanted to ...

Alamo City Crossfire: Mercy & Justice - You Can Have Both
http://alamocitycrossfire.blogspot.com/2004/12/mercy-justice-you-can-have-both.html
This blog was created to debate the great issues of our day; all from the viewpoint of some local people in San Antonio, Texas. We welcome comments. Tuesday, December 14, 2004. Mercy and Justice - You Can Have Both. I guess the only things we will agree on are that you have experts that agree with you and I have experts that agree with me; you have studies that back you up and I have studies that back me up. So now what? So, what I take from the story is that people can still face human justice for crime...

M1ek's Bake-Sale of Bile. The Personal and Political Ramblings of one guy in Texas. Thursday, June 23, 2005. The Text of a Letter to Senators Cornyn and Hutchison. I am writing today to express my outrage over two different events. The first is the proposed amendment that would give Congress the power to prohibit "desecration" of the American flag. Has there really been such an epidemic of this kind of crime that merits the changing of the very foundation of our laws? If you feel the need to create a Con...

M1ek's Bake-Sale of Bile. The Personal and Political Ramblings of one guy in Texas. Tuesday, March 29, 2005. Review: Sailing The Wine Dark Sea. Sailing the Wine Dark Sea;. Why the Greeks Matter. Cahill came to most people's attention a few years ago with his book "How the Irish Saved Civilization". However, that was just one of a serious of books he is writing called "the Hinges of History". Sea is his section on the Greeks. In what turns out to be all too short a time, he covers a vast area of time and ...

M1ek's Bake-Sale of Bile. The Personal and Political Ramblings of one guy in Texas. Wednesday, August 03, 2005. Sorta-Not-Quite Review: Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Let's see if this works this time. Last time I tried typing up my thoughts on the latest Potter, a freakish bolt of lightning caused a power flicker that zapped my document, despite the fact I was certain I'd already hit the save button a time or two. Okay I suppose I'll start with dislikes, since one has to start somewhere. I was ...

The inherent conundrum of Operant Behavior
http://stimulusresponse.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
The Inherent Conundrum of Operant Behavior. Thoughts, wanderings and questions. Often contradictory, but almost always within the shroud of my world. Friday, June 17, 2005. On torture and Guantanamo. So there's a bunch of torture talk. In reference to Guantanamo these days. Sorry, another depressing topic. Why did it happen? So that probably contributed. Something else that probably contributed is that the people committing the acts were rather young and consequently didn't have much experience being...

Huslin' One '87: End of semester hijinks
http://huslinone87.blogspot.com/2007/09/end-of-semester-hijinks.html
Memories of the Corps of Cadets at Texas A&M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007. End of semester hijinks. Things got real laid back during finals week of the first semester. Freshmen were granted junior privileges and the Corps was pretty much put on hold. Someone made a makeshift guidon out of an outfit t-shirt and a broom handle one evening and Greg. Hilgenburg started marching up and down the hall pretending to be a guidon bearer. L-R: John Basila, Bryan Todd (in back), Greg Hilgenburg, David Wilson. Inform...
