Calgary: Bears in the ‘Burbs? | Coffee, cake and kangaroos

Coffee, cake and kangaroos. Another day in Western Australia. Calgary: Bears in the ‘Burbs? July 27, 2015. My Mom lives in Calgary near the old Canada Olympic Park site on the western side of town. Used to be the edge of the city, but Calgarians have an appetite for expansion, and the city continues to sprawl in every direction. Plenty of flat land and nothing to stop the encroachment. Peaceful pathway down to the Bow River. In 2013, Calgary was hit by a once-in-a-hundred-year flood. It devastated mu...

Spring in the garden | Coffee, cake and kangaroos
https://roshanek.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/spring-in-the-garden
Coffee, cake and kangaroos. Another day in Western Australia. Spring in the garden. October 20, 2014. I was out wandering around the garden this afternoon when I happened across this mother and her little joey–who is a bit small yet to come out of the pouch, but is seriously thinking about it! Another older joey was close by with its mum–having lots of exploratory jumps to try out those new, gangly legs. I hope autumn in the Northern Hemisphere is as beautiful as it is here! Coffee, cake and kangaroos. Another day in Western Australia. June 27, 2014. It has turned cold, windy and rainy today after a lovely sunny day yesterday. The morning bike ride was a soggy and windy one! Last roses (Gold bunny). The bulbs and rhizomes:. Narcissus working on blooming. Finally, the ever-blooming grevillea “coconut ice” has a few other grevilleas to keep it company! And more Australian natives…. The ever-cheerful heart-leaf flame pea. Paperbark tree in flower. July flowers | Coffee, cake and kangaroos

Coffee, cake and kangaroos. Another day in Western Australia. August 8, 2014. Surprisingly, I’ve come full circle on this blog. I started with August flowers and now nearly a year has (suddenly) passed and as I look around the garden I see loads of changes from one year ago. Plants we’ve added, plants we’ve pulled out, plants that have given up the ghost, but mostly plants that have grown! And a few of the edible plants/trees are starting to flower! Lime, nasturtium, blueberry and apricot. August 8, 2014.

Coffee, cake and kangaroos. Another day in Western Australia. June 13, 2014. My mom sent me a photo of her amazing lilac bush in Canada. Don’t think we have lilacs here in Australia–at least not in this part. I grew up with these in our back garden and they were truly a sign that summer had arrived.
