Breaking Bad in Catholic School | rhymeswithrace

https://rhymeswithrace.wordpress.com/2014/10/22/breaking-bad-in-catholic-school

Art and writing about race, place, and culture by Yoona Lee. Laquo; The leg. Breaking Bad in Catholic School. October 22, 2014. For a humble daughter of God, Sr. Marie Louise had a volcanic temper, throwing heavy three-hole punches and math books at misbehaving students. She usually accompanied this violence with a hokey, politically incorrect threat, like I’m going to serve you for chop suey! After getting bullied this way for a year and continuing to be friendless, I grew as mean as my classmates if no...

Art and writing about race, place, and culture by Yoona Lee. Laquo; End to a racialized year. Selma and Charlie: Paying the price of freedom. Painting race–and rage. January 7, 2015. Over the holidays, I laid a large piece of raw canvas on the floor of a friend’s art studio and slashed and hacked away at it with a housepainter’s brush. Sure, it was action painting. Nothing nobody wasn’t doing in 1951 (wait, does that triple-negative still make a positive? This was the result:. I titled the piece. Working...
