Cooking, eating, crafting, and playing lawyer in the Windy City. January 30, 2012. Doughnuts are the new cupcakes and you might say that I’ve been bitten by the bug rather badly. Ever since the Doughnut Vault. Opened its doors here back in September, I’ve not only consumed more doughnuts than are good for me, but I’ve also gotten very interested in making some of my own. When I was in NYC a few weeks ago, I, of course, visited the Doughnut Plant. After I got back, I bought a doughnut pan (this one. Let m...

Cooking, eating, crafting, and playing lawyer in the Windy City. 8220;Oh, sweetheart, you don’t need law school. Law school is for people who are boring and ugly and serious. And you, button, are none of those things.”. I’m Sara. I live in the Windy City and am a lawyer in denial, sewer, retired globe trotter, knitter, foodie, recovering Type A personality, enthusiastic generalist, and occasional wearer of pink suede cowboy hats. Just wanted to pop in here briefly to say hello and to wish y’all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 2011 has been pretty damn crummy so I’m ready to close the books on it. It's an engineer thing, dear...: January 2011
http://merryheathre.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 17, 2011. An expensive tomato and a kindle sleeve. The other day I bought a tomato at the co-op because it was a pretty yellowish-orange color. When I got home I realized that I had spent $1.25 for a tomato the size of a ping-pong ball. So, the eating of this tomato became important and memorable:. There was also avocado. It was wonderful. Here I'm showing you the closure. I haven't sewn the button on yet - but it's made so the flap "blends" with the argyle pattern. Nifty, eh? Please, if ...

Wednesday, March 30, 2011. What Should I Read Next? And I am enamored of it. It's simple - you type in the title of a book that you like and it gives you books that other people who like that book like. It is. Similar to Amazon's recommendations, except here people make their own lists of books they own, not just books that they also purchased. April 3, 2011 at 9:47 PM. I shouldnt have read this post! Im obsessed with book recommendations, and this new piece of information will only feed my addiction!

Monday, November 8, 2010. Empire State of Mind. Well, I've been back for almost two weeks (two weeks, really? And I've been internally debating that whole time: how shall I blog about my trip? Just a few highlights? If you have a preference, let me know in the comments - but as I've typed this, I think I've concluded: subject posts. We'll have food, shopping, art, buildings, fabric, parks, etc. How's that sound? Let me know if you have a subject for me to cover! Labels: New York City. Life moves on….
It's an engineer thing, dear...: May 2011

Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Well, I am soaked. Or rather, I would be, if I had not stripped down to my underwear the moment I entered my front door. I'm trying to figure out who I can blame - and where it all started. It might be my brother, who loves to ride bikes. It might be the citizen committee I staff, dedicated to non-motorized transportation. It might be that I need to lose a few pounds. Sunday, July 4, 2010. More Loot - and what I plan to do with it. Since you know me pretty well, you know I did not limit myself to the Neptune purchase while I was shop hopping. I also bought a layer cake - also a Tula Pink design, but this is her latest - Plume. I got it at the Bellevue shop, Quiltworks Northwest, which I liked very much. Smooth sailing. sort of. So, I'm telling this story to a couple guys after work last week and one asks, "Do you want to go sailing Friday after work? I was like "Yeah!

Monday, March 1, 2010. Then, during last week, I visited my friend Nate and ended up standing outside talking until it started to get cold and dark. I spotted the moon, whipped out my camera, and here you have the best of the shots. Very successful recipes. Sadly, I didn't get any pictures of cupcakes or brunch. But, then I needed a purse to put this thingy on, and I couldn't afford the ones that I really wanted, so I joined bagborroworsteal.com It's like netflix for purses! March 5, 2010 at 6:16 PM.

Monday, October 18, 2010. So, my parents have a new member of their family. I suppose you could say I have a new four-legged brother. His name is Bosley, and he's a mid-size Australian Labradoodle. He's goofy, he's a thief, he's got sharp little teeth, and he's just about as sweet as they come. While I was blow-drying my hair one morning, he absconded with my sandal - luckily I caught him before any damage was done. He's little now, but he should end up around 40 lbs. Oh yeah - those sharp little teeth?

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. A little of this, a little of that.one day at a time. Saturday, November 23, 2013. Most of my effort goes into the Long and Winding Road these days, and I don't spend much time here. However, I thought it worthwhile to share an article I recently wrote after being on a call with one of the Principal Scientists at the Banner Alzheimer's Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry: Who, What, When, & How? Friday, November 8, 2013. It's the last step.

Leave a comment ». In honor of 221B Con. Which I am sadly unable to attend, I’m posting directions on making your own mini deerstalker over the next couple of days. First choice is the fabric. I found a number of small scale herringbone fabrics online. But a houndstooth weave is also seen in many incarnations of the infamous Sherlock hat. Either way, make sure it is fine enough for something like a tiny hat. Fine enough as in not a coat weight fabric. Look for keywords like skirt weight or drapey. I ende...

Full marks to SBS. For their work and production style - particularly the Taste of the Tour. Worth watching just for the suggestions of food and wine pairings. I'll be checking in to SBS for my coverage fix next year though for sure! Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Watch the clip here. Just beware of the monkees, they are cruel!
