hogonthetyne: The Bandits – Sleepers 18 April 2008
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008/05/bandits-sleepers-18-april-2008.html
Saturday, 10 May 2008. The Bandits – Sleepers 18 April 2008. It had been a long week and I needed to see a band. But which band? So many bands to choose from. In the end the band we chose to see was the unbanned band The Bandits at Sleepers, West Boldon. Tonight he also becomes BBBB but more of that later. At the back on drums and with very small ears is Brad Dolphin. The small ears may affect his ability to wear Bad Bob glasses but his drumming is tight and his eyesight the best of the three. Musically ...

hogonthetyne: Skint – Magnesia Bank 22 March 2008
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008/05/skint-magnesia-bank-22-march-2008.html
Saturday, 10 May 2008. Skint – Magnesia Bank 22 March 2008. Skint are a four piece, drums, guitar, bass and vocals with the bassist also supplying support vocals. As their web site says their combined ages are over 180 and we were all expectantly hopeful. Maybe they got better in the second half but for a lot of us it was one set too far. hogonthetyne: May 2008
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 May 2008. FM – Garrick’s Head, North Shields 24 May 2008. A four piece; bass, guitar, singer, drummer. On vocals and sporting the pinkest hair this side of the singer Pink is Steve Ireland who states as one of his favourite albums “Little Earthquakes” by Tori Amos which would surprise a few. On guitar Dave Johnson whose favourite album is the more expected Led Zeppelin 3. And finally that’s him in the corner (losing his religion - behind the pillar! What I like about this band are the contrasts.

hogonthetyne: Rattlesnake Road – Magnesia Bank – 7 March 2007
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008/05/rattlesnake-road-magnesia-bank-7-march.html
Saturday, 10 May 2008. Rattlesnake Road – Magnesia Bank – 7 March 2007. Rattlesnake Road are in fact the West Coast incarnation of Faith Healer with the addition of Stu on bass. There’s no point in y’all asking for Paranoid or Jailbreak as this group only play US West coast rock. So for something a little different this is one band well worth visiting. They started the set up tempo with China Grove - The Doobie Brothers before going straight into Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd. Rattlesnake Road give...

hogonthetyne: The Alligators – Cullercoats Crescent Club 23 April 2008
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008/05/alligators-cullercoats-crescent-club-23.html
Saturday, 10 May 2008. The Alligators – Cullercoats Crescent Club 23 April 2008. Following a successful first rock night a short while ago tonight was event number two with The Alligators. An unknown band for me but one that came highly recommended. I still maintain that the venue is the best in North Tyneside although it is a big venue so needs a decent crowd to avoid that empty feeling. So onto the band, The Alligators, and I’ll make this snappy! Now concentrated fabric conditioners mean a little goes ...

hogonthetyne: The Force Sleepers 23 March 2008
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008/05/force-sleepers-23-march-2008.html
Saturday, 10 May 2008. The Force Sleepers 23 March 2008. It’s Sunday no work tomorrow, its packed, its loud and there’s scented smoke. What more could you ask for? The Force tonight played Sleepers and I’ve never seen the place so packed. To the tune of The Stripper the band appeared and went straight into UFO’s Rock me followed by their own Breaking Free as the scented smoke bathed the crowd at the front. And the snow hastily retreated. Next Cant Happen Here, Rainbow and then Passage to Bangkok. The ban...

Saturday, 17 May 2008. Slip of the Tongue - A review of the band and the gig at the Duke of Cumberland, Heworth, 17 May 2008. What are Slip of the Tongue? A six piece Whitesnake tribute band. So who are Slip of the Tongue? Up front and undoubtedly David Coverdale’s love child it’s Ian ’Bill’ Hornsby on vocals. On the other lead guitar it’s Paul (Hoooooooooooooooook) Richardson. With his trusted Yamaha S90 ES it’s Jon Winship on the ivories (and ebonies! So what is their pedigree? This line up then went i...

hogonthetyne: Matt Schofield Trio – Buddle Arts Centre, Wallsend – 14 March 2008
http://hogonthetyne.blogspot.com/2008/05/matt-schofield-trio-buddle-arts-centre.html
Saturday, 10 May 2008. Matt Schofield Trio – Buddle Arts Centre, Wallsend – 14 March 2008. The Buddle Arts Centre is in fact an old Victorian Infants School in the centre of Wallsend. The gigs are held in what must have been the old school hall and the atmosphere is akin to that on The Fast Show’s Jazz Club, but without the smoke…….nice! Doors opened at 7.30 for this gig so when we arrived at about 8.15 to see long queues it was irritating to find that the doors were still locked. Support act was local s...
