Thursday, June 19, 2014. News From the Fifth. This week the fifth graders visited Martin Middle School. Mr. DeVall greeted them and spoke to them about life as a middle schooler. They then broke up into small groups and were led on a tour by some of the Martin Middle School students. Today we took our annual field trip to Battleship Cove. The fifth graders were great and thanks to all of our wonderful chaperones, they had a fun day! Thanks to all of you for spending the day with us. Welcome to my blog!

Thursday, June 12, 2014. News From the Fifth. This week the fifth graders finished reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. They have begun writing their final essay, Memories of Kent Heights. This is a tradition for all fifth graders. Some students will be reading their essay at or Fifth Grade Awards Day on June 24th. Thursday, June 5, 2014. News From the Fifth. The fifth graders are almost finished reading Hatchet. They shared their creative writing stories based on the book and have been working with vocabulary and comprehension skills as we read this story. In math we have been working on multiplication of decimals and multi-step problems and will begin division next week. They will be working with a partner (or on their own) to create a power point presentation. Students are to work in class, but their are allowed to research information at home using their thumb drives. In Literacy we have begun reading a new trade book. It is called Hatchet.
