http://richardcarter.com/notebook/seahorse-and-pelican

W]hile on the one hand the study of Nature today aims to describe a system governed by immutable laws, on the other it delights in drawing our attention to creatures noteworthy for their bizarre physical form or behaviour. Nature & Place. Keep a writing journal. The best writing advice I ever received. Article source: http:/ richardcarter.com/keep-a-writing-journal/. When my friend and creativity guru, Stense, offered me some unequivocal advice about my writing a few years back, I knew I'd have to give it a shot even though it made no sense to me at the time. Stense told me, in no uncertain terms, that I needed to start keeping a journal:. A few days later, I began my first tentative journal entry in a DropBox Markdown.

My photos on Smugmug. My photos on Flickr. Full list of my websites. It might be a photographers' cliché, but it's true: the best camera in the world is the one you have with you; all other cameras are useless. Pretty much whenever I go for a walk or have a trip out somewhere, I make a point of taking my SLR camera with me. I am a photographer, so I should have my best camera with me whenever possible. You never know what you might see. AFTER THE DAILY DRUDGE. I'm still kicking myself about that one.

A natural history journal. Catching up (January 2014). I haven't posted any updates here for a couple of months, but I have been visiting Burton Marshes pretty much every week. During this time, two storm-surges have flooded the marshes, introducing new temporary lakes much to the delight of the local wildfowl. I've also managed to get quite close to a pair of stonechats. On a number of occasions, and taken some pretty nice photos. Flock of teal, Burton Marshes. Continue reading Catching up (January 2014).
