Fascinated, I watched to see what would be done about Leroy. Who would take action? And by what authority? Ca-chunk . . . ca-chunk. Shovel by shovel, Leroy proceeded toward me, turned, and started back on the next row. People frowned. They clustered together and shook their heads. Finally a young man with his own shovel fell in behind Leroy to scoop up the soil Leroy had thrown down and return it to the planting mound. As far as I saw, no one spoke to Leroy.
