L-Bracket

April 11, 2013. Click photos on this page to view a larger version. Today I purchased a Manfrotto L-Bracket MS050M4-Q2. I had been contemplating this for awhile. The L-bracket comes with an adaptor plate attached to each side of the L. To switch orientations, you loosen the adapter plate attaching the camera and the ball head, rotate the camera 90 degrees and attach the other adaptor plate to the ball head. The camera will always be located over the centerline of the tripod and not be tippy.

December 11, 2014. Click photos on this page to view a larger version. Topaz Labs offers a number of plug-ins for Lightroom and Photoshop. My favorite is Topaz Clarity but Topaz B&W is quite good when you want a stand-out black and white treatment for a specific photo and don't want to put too much time into making it happen. Nik (now owned by Google) also has what I understand is an outstanding product for this purpose. I have not used that product. Using the Traditional - Classic preset.

Now that i've gotten some sleep after the previous week closed out with 3 consecutive nights of aurora activity, i've got some downtime to go through 800 photos and update this. wednesday night in healy looked like a slow bomb went off in the sky over the course of 8 hours. it was easily the best display of my short aurora chasing career, and probably the best display i'd ever seen.
