Page 2 of 4. November 13, 2014. Currently I’m doing a lot of testing at home on Network Virtualization solutions, like VMware NSX, Juniper Contrail, etc. Therefore I was stressing my current single home server quite a lot. Which is a custom build Xeon E3-1230 quad core with 32GB of RAM and 128GB SSD. I built this server according to the specifications found at: http:/ packetpushers.net/vmware-vcdx-lab-the-hardware/. At least 32GB of RAM, preferably (or upgradable to) 64GB. 2 or more 1Gbps Ethernet NICs.

EVPN | Rick Mur

http://rickmur.com/category/dc/evpn

March 18, 2015. In my last blog I explained the features and use cases of the EVPN technology. In this blog I want to show how easy it is to configure, enable and expand EVPN. The configuration is focused on the Juniper MX platform, but as Junos is the single operating system across the entire Juniper portfolio, configuration on other platforms (like EX9200) is equal. We use OSPF as internal routing protocol, but in this simple topology it could’ve been a static route as well. This could potentially caus...

VMware NSX 101 – ComponentsRick Mur | Rick Mur

http://rickmur.com/vmware-nsx-101

VMware NSX 101 – Components. July 11, 2015. Today I want to explain the basic components and the set-up of VMware NSX. In this case I’m referring to NSX for vSphere or NSX-V for short. I want to explain what components are involved, how you set them up for an initial deployment and what the requirements are. After connecting the NSX Manager you will no longer need it that GUI. Within the vSphere Web Client a Networking and Security tab is now available. The following step is to install 3 kernel modules i...

Home lab | Rick Mur

http://rickmur.com/category/homelab

February 8, 2015. A typical Network Virtualization demo is difficult as you need quite some hypervisor hosts to run some VMs on and interconnect them using Overlays. I solve this using nested virtualization. This means that I run a hypervisor running on another. This gives me the flexibility that my physical nodes, or hypervisor underlay if you will, can scale easily and I’m independent of them. How does this work? Memory is the biggest burden in these nested set-ups. CPU performance is always hardwa...

The Ferret's Corner: To Bootcamp or Not to Boot Camp

http://ciscoferret.blogspot.com/2009/04/to-bootcamp-or-not-to-boot-camp.html

Just another blog for someone working towards a CCIE. Saturday, 25 April 2009. To Bootcamp or Not to Boot Camp. Okay so the opportunity for me to go on a CCIE. Boot camp has come up. I was having a look on the Micronics. Website following some posts I saw on the CCIE. Candidate blog and I saw that there was a boot camp running from the 18 th. Candidate website where some people had gone on the boot camp without having done any full scale labs because of Narbik's. Obviously only I can make the final decis...

http://ciscoferret.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Just another blog for someone working towards a CCIE. Wednesday, 5 August 2009. So I have been pretty busy with work and family to do much blog posting these days, but I do have one bit of news. I have decided to take the plunge take out a loan and book Narbik's boot camp in September. Hopefully it will give my CCIE studies the shot in the arm they require. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Ferret's Corner: CCIE Command Memorizer MPLS

http://ciscoferret.blogspot.com/2009/06/ccie-command-memorizer-mpls.html

Just another blog for someone working towards a CCIE. Thursday, 4 June 2009. CCIE Command Memorizer MPLS. This is just a quick post to say that David Bombal. Http:/ www.configureterminal.com/. Has been working hard on the CCIE. And a new MPLS. Becomes a very handy tool to practice on when you are out and about. Also the simplicity means I can maximise my study time instead of wasting valuable time setting up a lab in Dynamips. In my opinion it would make a great CCNP. And now with MPLS. As for the CCIE.

The Ferret's Corner: November 2008

http://ciscoferret.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Just another blog for someone working towards a CCIE. Thursday, 27 November 2008. Just a quick to post to say I am still around and alive. We just alive as someone decided it would be a good idea to knock me off my bike the other day. They did not even stop, they slowed down for a second and then sped off. Unfortunately the traffic lights further up the road changed just as I was running up to give them some serious abuse. As well as being knocked off my real bike I have also been knocked off my CCIE.

The Ferret's Corner: WoW it has been a long time

http://ciscoferret.blogspot.com/2010/08/wow-it-has-been-long-time.html

Just another blog for someone working towards a CCIE. Friday, 27 August 2010. WoW it has been a long time. As the title of the post says it has been a long time since I have posted anything or been on this blog at all. The reason I stopped studying was that I was heavily into my CCIE study and with work and personal commitments I just did not have the time to do any blogging. I was to busy labbing away and not taking any notes, naughty boy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on Twitter. If you...

Just another blog for someone working towards a CCIE. Wednesday, 7 January 2009. State of the Ferret 07/01/09. Well a belated Happy New Year to everyone. It has been a while since I have posted and that is because things have been pretty hectic with family commitments over the festive season as you can probably imagine. There were a few work commitments in there as well but studying did not go very well at all. I was trying to finish the OSPF. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Follow me on Twitter.

The Shop

Wednesday, May 27, 2015. Often (frequently) Orphaned (a person who has lost his parents). Mom died a year ago, today. I wish she hadn't. Dad died eleven-and-a-half years before that. Although not technically true, I liked to say that Dad's death left me a bastard child, and now Mom's departure has left me an orphan. Thirty-nine-year-old orphans have very little chance of being adopted. They won't even consider my application for Wednesday's child. In other news: I miss Mom and Dad. Thursday, April 9, 2015.
