Ravn: a 19-foot faering. A detailed account of the building of a faering designed by Atkin and her continuing adventures. Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Each day Odin sends Huginn and Muninn (Thought and Memory) to fly over Midgard (Middle Earth). The two ravens return and sit on. Houlders whispering in his ears what they have seen. It's also just a great name for a black boat! Says I. "Rock fish," he would report. We were both having fun together doing different things. Years a...

Ravn: a 19-foot faering. A detailed account of the building of a faering designed by Atkin and her continuing adventures. Sunday, November 29, 2009. The Sampson post post. Yesterday I made and installed Ravn's Sampson post. With the decks finished It's time to put on the mahogany combings, but I had to get the Sampson post in place before I could do that. While I had some epoxy on hand I installed the screw eye that will secure Ravn's forestay. You can just see it in the background of the photo. ...Now R...

Ravn: a 19-foot faering. A detailed account of the building of a faering designed by Atkin and her continuing adventures. Saturday, May 1, 2010. The keel on Atkin's Valgerda may be the most controversial element in his design catalog. Yesterday I received an email from Tom in Georgia, who is about to order Valgerda plans, but needs shallower draft than the 18 inches drawn by Atkin. Here's part of my reply:. And the comments following it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Bundin er batleysir madur. Links relate...

Ravn: a 19-foot faering. A detailed account of the building of a faering designed by Atkin and her continuing adventures. Sunday, June 3, 2012. A faering full of Fords. Three generations of Ford men, my grandson, son and me. I filled the faering full of Fords and we sailed Budd Inlet the Saturday before Memorial Day. There was plenty of room with six aboard: my youngest son, his wife, two kids, my wife and me. Several times during the sail the center thwart was empty. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Ravn: a 19-foot faering. A detailed account of the building of a faering designed by Atkin and her continuing adventures. Sunday, June 15, 2014. Paul, Ravn's new owner, takes the oars. It was more than two years ago that my wife and I decided to buy a sailboat and go cruising. This was and is one of the most exciting and life-changing decisions ever and we are both fully committed to it. It means selling or giving away everything that won't fit on our Columbia 43 sailboat Oceanus. The following Saturday ...

Ravn: a 19-foot faering. A detailed account of the building of a faering designed by Atkin and her continuing adventures. Friday, March 9, 2012. Prudent, or just a chicken? Looks deceptively placid. It's blowing like stink! After what seems like weeks of cold, rainy weather we got a little sun. All day yesterday I was wishing I wasn't at work so I could take Ravn. I guess I will never know: I unstepped the mast, strapped my little faering down and headed for home. It is now four hours later and the cloud...

Even though we've never met, I feel a special kinship to Giacomo De Stefano. The two of us have developed an on-line friendship spurred by our mutual love of faerings and faering-inspired boats. There will only be the wind and a sail," he says on his Web site. Giacomo figures it will take him about a million oar strokes to complete his jour...
