Million Things To Be: Live the dream
http://1000000things2b.blogspot.com/2011/04/live-dream.html
Million Things To Be. Sing out and be free. Tuesday, April 12, 2011. In about two months I will head to orientation to begin becoming a nurse. While distracting myself at one of what was to be a few not-so-awesome jobs. I recall thinking to myself "whoa, that's what I want to do. like, for real". For a long time, nagging voices in my head convinced me that I could never become a UCSF-trained nurse practitioner because: I. I got that C in 9th grade biology (that's still true), had a fun /. Oh yeah, there ...

Million Things To Be: April 2011
http://1000000things2b.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Million Things To Be. Sing out and be free. Wednesday, April 13, 2011. So, today going to work, five minutes into my commute I could tell I was going to have one of those I hate everyone. Transit commute days. Come on, people, learn how to act. If you've never ridden MUNI, get ready. If you're currently waiting for MUNI, um, good luck. In any case, it reminded me of one thing I'm really excited for about going to UCSF for, which is totally unrelated to the actual top-notch learning. While distracting mys...

Million Things To Be: Sticker Shock
http://1000000things2b.blogspot.com/2011/05/sticker-shock.html
Million Things To Be. Sing out and be free. Thursday, May 5, 2011. This past weekend was sunny-warm in SF, the kind of weather that people who don't live in California think we have all the time (if you don't live in the Bay Area, in sum, it's foggy and cool mostly. Some people I know spent the day picnicking, at the beach, at the park or otherwise outside. I got CPR certified. It really is nothing to complain about. The class seemed like one of those discount, not-too-serious formalities. With that extr...

IBCLC, Doula, Nursing Student, and future CNM. April 13, 2011 by inoakpark. After my last Casa post things got a whole hell of a lot busier there and I apparently dropped off the face of the earth for a couple of years. Sorry about that! As a short “catch-up” to what’s happened since then:. Before I start the program in June I will make an effort to post some info about the application process since I know I scoured the internet looking for information when I was in the weeds of essay writing. I know I&#...

Nursing N00b: March 2010
http://nursingn00b.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 22, 2010. The Luxury of Choice. I got a call today from one of my other schools, letting me know to expect an acceptance letter in the next few days. That was nice of them. I also sent my denial to another school today. It felt weird - like I'm afraid that UCSF is somehow going to change their minds, or there will be some clerical error and I won't be able to go - so telling another school "no" felt wrong. So I know how that feels and I didn't want to be in that position again. Step 1: Frea...

Nursing N00b: early advice
http://nursingn00b.blogspot.com/2010/07/early-advice.html
Tuesday, July 6, 2010. It's beginning of Week 3, and I have a few pieces of advice for y'all. Take your CPR training/recertification close to the beginning of MEPN. Your ABCs will come up CONSTANTLY. If in doubt, the right answer is "assess.". OK, off to take ANOTHER online exam. Strangely enough, this quarter is a third over already. Time is so funny. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Nursing N00b: December 2010
http://nursingn00b.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Thursday, December 30, 2010. Interview advice - for UCSF MEPN or otherwise. I remember around this time last year. I remember being alternately exhilarated and terrified. My interview was in 3 weeks - YAY! And also OH CRAP! I had no idea what to expect. Many hours were devoted to scanning others' blogs about interview tips. Why do you want to be a nurse? Be very specific- - this is a big question.). What do you think a nurse (RN, not NP! This isn't a trick question! Schools want to see that you. Once you...

Nursing N00b: July 2010
http://nursingn00b.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Yesterday was the infamous "Poop Lecture" in my Intro to Nursing class. I spent half the time taking lecture notes, and the other half of the time writing down the gems that my professor spouted about poop. Behold! Some of my favorites are below:. A sitz bath is like a butt jacuzzi.". A rectal prolapse is a type of hemorrhoid. You won't miss it, but you may want to confirm it. Because you might think it's a little animal.". We should just make him DNR. Just kidding! I had a very n...
