A Hebridean in New Zealand: The Last Time

http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.com/2014/04/the-last-time.html

A Hebridean in New Zealand. Notes on my life when in New Zealand. A Life In The Day Of. Monday, 28 April 2014. The time has come,' this blogger said,. To think of journeyings:. Of shoes — and clothes — and luggage-bags —. Of cameras — and things —. And how the sea is to be crossed —. And whether planes have wings.'. With many apologies to Lewis Carroll). The Cottage. It has been a haven and a heaven. The hills of Hawkes Bay. There is something about the shape and light of these hills that will for ev...

A Hebridean in New Zealand: Thankful Thursday

http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.com/2014/04/thankful-thursday.html

A Hebridean in New Zealand. Notes on my life when in New Zealand. A Life In The Day Of. Thursday, 24 April 2014. Anyway I've decided that it's about time I pulled my socks up and got on with it. Why is it, by the way, that when people one knows are having a Bad Time it makes one feel a little guilty for being thankful? You don't really need to read the rest of this: it's here for the 'diary' aspect of my blog. In the greater scheme of things amongst the goings on in this world of ours all this is very sh...

A Hebridean in New Zealand: February 2013

http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

A Hebridean in New Zealand. Notes on my life when in New Zealand. A Life In The Day Of. Thursday, 28 February 2013. This year you are producing more work which I admire for its sheer beauty but which I am also beginning, with your help, to understand. I am looking forward to seeing it at the exhibition in May. Yesterday you blogged the statement by Toni Morrison. I want to tell you how thankful I am that that you share your knowledge and thoughts and your art with me (and many others of course). Asked wh...

A Hebridean in New Zealand: January 2013

http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

A Hebridean in New Zealand. Notes on my life when in New Zealand. A Life In The Day Of. Thursday, 31 January 2013. At 0900 the reminder on my iPhone told me it was Thankful Thursday. Again? I really must find a way of slowing time down. So much to do and so little time in which to do it. How many times have I said that? I spent quite a lot of time today thinking about what to post because I have so much for which to be thankful. Indeed the list is endless. Links to this post. Wednesday, 30 January 2013.

A Hebridean in New Zealand: Thankful Thursday: Every Cloud

http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.com/2014/10/thankful-thursday-every-cloud.html

A Hebridean in New Zealand. Notes on my life when in New Zealand. A Life In The Day Of. Thursday, 16 October 2014. Thankful Thursday: Every Cloud. Has a silver lining. However who knows what will happen in a few months and I am now back in an optimistic enough frame of mind to believe that I shall be seeing The Family again in their own setting and that I shall again play croquet on the hallowed Marewa lawns: perhaps not this summer but certainly the following one. 16 October 2014 at 13:02. How good your...

Conversations With An Old Goat: March 2015

http://10000lines.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Conversations With An Old Goat. Wednesday, 25 March 2015. Macandrew Bay is located on the Otago Peninsula.on the edge of Dunedin’s Otago Harbour, and is named for pioneer settler James Macandrew who lived here during his later life. Early residents of the area called the bay "The Hundreds", due to the large number of boulders which covered the foreshore. On Sunday 15 March, we drove along the coast, through the “village”, and up and over the mountain to Larnach Castle. Don’t get me wrong. If yo...Last Oc...

Conversations With An Old Goat: August 2015

http://10000lines.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Conversations With An Old Goat. Wednesday, 19 August 2015. I checked up on this blog this morning, to discover, to my dismay, that I have been a very lazy blogger this year, with August 2015 a very threadbare posting period. Let's try and rectify that, I thought to myself. So, what can I write about? What is a blog? Well, anything goes, apparently. This blog does not cater for the commercial aspects - I'm not trying to sell any goods or services, and I do not earn revenue from reader traffic. But The Fla...

Conversations With An Old Goat: Tomorrow

http://10000lines.blogspot.com/2015/07/tomorrow.html

Conversations With An Old Goat. Wednesday, 8 July 2015. We continually encounter crossroads in our lives. Generally and quite frequently, I imagine, we are not even aware of the importance of any one particular encounter. It is only later, whether after a few hours or days or even after passing of a sizeable fraction of our existence, that we might review that particular crossroad and recognise its significance and how our actions (or lack of action) influenced the result. Dr Steve Maraboli said, "Althou...

The Paddock: June 2015

http://paulinespaddock.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 26, 2015. The new cow track is really taking shape. I've named it the Super Highway as it looks so much grander than the other cow paths but it won't stay so pristine for long. Was right when he commented that the cows won't walk any faster but when there's 400 of them moving from cowshed to paddock, they need to be able to walk more than 2 abreast or they really would be strung out like Brown's cows. He tried to ignore me, doing his best regal pose. But he wanted to talk too badly:. My teen...

The Paddock: The far side

http://paulinespaddock.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-far-side.html

Sunday, July 12, 2015. I've finally discovered which road takes you closest to that part of the mountain. We didn't stop for a close up photo. Next time. Looking south down river:. We were headed for Opononi and Rawene but stopped by the entrance to the Tane Mahuta track in the Waipoua Forest to have our picnic lunch. (It was still pretty chilly in the shade in the forest.) Tane Mahuta is a kauri. July 12, 2015 at 6:22 PM. Good composition in the first shot but I enjoyed the second more. Dont know why.

The Paddock: Opononi

http://paulinespaddock.blogspot.com/2015/07/opononi.html

Monday, July 13, 2015. Although Opo the dolphin became famous throughout New Zealand long before I arrived in the country, I couldn't live in the north and not know the story of how, in the mid. Who according to legend was a great chief of Hawaiki. Who arrived in New Zealand in 925 AD). Her death was reported nationwide, and she was buried with full Māori honours in a special plot next to the War Memorial Hall, just to the left of her statue. It's just to the right of the shot below:. We took a drive up ...

Conversations With An Old Goat: May 2015

http://10000lines.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Conversations With An Old Goat. Wednesday, 27 May 2015. Pile Of The Brown Stuff. Progress report on our Veggie bed, named RIMU. Dateline:27052015-13:45NZST Reikorangi Valley. Since the weekend when the bed was being rototilled, two-and-a-half days later, my progress at sifting the soil has been, in the words of my friend Charles Dickens, rather tardy, mostly for reasons beyond my control. By the way: whilst checking whether " rototilled. Should be hyphenated to " roto-tilled. This is barrow #3 of stones ...

A Life in the Day of: April 2009

http://tighnamara.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

A Life in the Day of. Thoughts on appreciating life and how we live, remembering that each day may be our last. Monday, 20 April 2009. I commented  to a friend earlier on today that if she could define 'normal' (in relation to what doesn't matter for this purpose) she was a better man than I am Gunga Din (with apologies to Kipling).  After all one man's normal can be another man's bizarre. And A Hebridean in New Zealand. GB alias L'homme bizarre avec la barbe grise. Links to this post. I knew from past e...

On the Wirral : April 2010

http://onthewirral.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

A blog about places of interest on the Wirral Peninsula and around the rest of Merseyside in the North West of England. Friday, 30 April 2010. A thatched cottage at Gayton in the 1930s - photo taken by Dad. Thursday, 29 April 2010. Burton - The Parish Church of St Nicholas – the interior. Also in the porch, built into the North wall is this early 13th century coffin lid whose carving is in remarkable condition considering the church went through some periods of utter neglect. St Nicholas was the patron s...
