March | 2009 | Round the Table

https://roundthetable.wordpress.com/2009/03

Archive for March, 2009. Sometimes, I swear I feel like Goldilocks. And never more so than when I tried to find the perfect bagel recipe. One recipe turned out too dense. Another recipe turned out too bready. Finally, I found the recipe that was. I had to kick myself. I found it on Smitten Kitchen. Go figure. A New Yorker and a bread baker (among other things, obviously). Of course Deb had an amazing recipe for bagels! I am forever grateful to Kimberly. I decided to try again. From King Arthur Flour....

Multigrain Struan Bread Extraordinaire | Round the Table

https://roundthetable.wordpress.com/2009/10/08/multigrain-struan-bread-extraordinaire

Multigrain Struan Bread Extraordinaire. October 8, 2009 at 3:57 pm. Back when I lived in Sonoma County, and Brother Juniper’s Bread. Was a way to “eat local” long before anyone actually said those words, Peter Reinhart’s (Brother Juniper) Struan Bread was one of my favorite breads to buy at Food 4 Thought Natural Foods Grocery Store (which of course got bought by Whole Foods. I digress. This week’s Bread Baker’s Apprentice Challenge. Himself. And it is soooooo good! Also, make sure you cook some brown ri...

The Missing Piece: Corn Bread - BBA Challenge #10

http://reviewofrecipes.blogspot.com/2009/07/corn-bread-bba-challenge-10.html

If I bring something over to your house and a piece is missing. check my husband's tummy. :-). Thursday, July 16, 2009. Corn Bread - BBA Challenge #10. Being a true southern girl, I'm not allowed to make corn bread unless it's in a well seasoned iron skillet. I believe my grandmother would turn over in her grave if I even thought about it. We start this recipe by soaking the polenta. I mixed the baking powder, salt and baking soda with unbleached AP flour. Added the white and brown sugar. Everyone loved ...

Ährelich Gesagt: BBA Challenge #5: Casatiello

http://aehrelichgesagt.blogspot.com/2009/06/bba-challenge-5-casatiello.html

Thursday, June 11, 2009. BBA Challenge #5: Casatiello. I know, I know. I'm late. You see, I had a vacation last week, and even though I was home the entire time, I did almost nothing relaxing. I did set aside some time to make the Casatiello last Tuesday, about nine days ago, but had no time (cough, cough) to blog about it. Okay, okay. I just got lazy. I did want to blog about it and even had a "I am going to sit down now and blog the Casatiello" but did other things instead. For the sausage, I used a Sp...

Ährelich Gesagt: BBA Challenge #7: Ciabatta Redux

http://aehrelichgesagt.blogspot.com/2009/07/bba-challenge-7-ciabatta-redux.html

Friday, July 24, 2009. BBA Challenge #7: Ciabatta Redux. I had already deemed the Ciabatta a failure in the post about it. And it was only after the fact that I realized that I had not even bothered to take pictures of the crumb. I wasn't going to do it again, but the bakery across the street has beautiful Ciabatta and with olives, and I was determined to make it this time. Here it is after the first rise, all puffed up in its silky high-hydration glory. Rising in the traditional folded over letter-style.

RoundTheTable — SF Bay Area Food and Life Blog

SF Bay Area Food and Life Blog. October 19, 2014. Gorgeous Half Moon Bay is having their famous Pumpkin Festival. This weekend. It’s a wonderful festival in all ways except one: Half Moon Bay is small and the crowd is larger than the biggest of the giant pumpkins. This makes for a several-hour drive into Half Moon Bay on a long, long 2 lane road. Normally the drive for us is 20-25 minutes. And then you can make these favorites:. Pumpkin Bread with Chocolate Swirl. Pumpkin Leftover Rice Pudding. Then you&...

I did buy extra corn on that last day, and froze a bit of it. It’ll be a great reminder of what will surely come again next summer. Until then, I made this soup to honor the Brentwood corn guys – you’ll be missed this winter! Cut the corn from the cobs first, a few hours before you wish to make the chowder. Then use the cobs to make the broth. The sweet rich corn flavor makes the extra step worthwhile. 6 Cups Vegetable Broth (method follows). 1 Tablespoon olive oil. 1/2 Cup diced celery. I like to use re...
