Sunday, 9 August 2015. Why is the Silver-washed Fritillary so named. Look at the underside of the wings of this female below. You can see there are streaks of silver on the hind wings. A few action shots below of male and female Silver-washed in preliminary courtship flight. They eventually ended up high up on Oak tree leaves. 9 August 2015 at 08:13. Thursday, 30 April 2015. Dunnocks enjoy (if thats the appropriate word) an interesting social lifestyle. Menage a trois" is hardly the description for it. Without going into all the detail here it can be gleaned from many birding sites on the Net. Suffice to say that the male and female meeting in the images below that I shot recently was unlikely to be the only encounter the Lady had that day or the male for that matter.
