Raspberry Pi meet Security system – Rahul's Blog
http://rrevo.github.io/2014/12/14/pi-security
Raspberry Pi meet Security system. Dec 14, 2014. I have a new security system for my home. It consists of various sensors entry/exit and motion to detect a break-in. I want to gather information about the events for building custom alerts and logging for future data analysis. However there is no interface to the security system for obvious reasons. Enter the new dream project. PS: Funny for once listening does not mean listening on a server socket but actually listening for sound.

Getting Started with OrientDB – Rahul's Blog
http://rrevo.github.io/2015/04/05/getting-started
Getting Started with OrientDB. Apr 5, 2015. I’ve been looking around for a new NoSQL database for a new application. Based on some preliminary Graph databases. Fit the sort of requirements that I have. (Then again every model is a Graph! In particular I am looking at the implementations of the Property Graph Model. A graph contains Vertices (or Nodes) connected via Edges (or Relationships). Vertices and Edges have labels (or identifiers). They can contain properties or a map of keys to values. Initialize...

Customer Service – Rahul's Blog
http://rrevo.github.io/2014/12/30/customer-service
Dec 30, 2014. Recently I had two varied experiences as a customer. Through my company I am a subscriber of Safari books. They offer tokens for downloading ebooks. These expire after some time and then you get a new set. I ended up waiting till the last day to use my tokens but somehow the tokens were already lost. I got in touch with their customer support and explained the issue. Later I got the following email from them-. So I was partly at fault but the response I got from them was all corporate talk&...

CodeWord - Thoughts on Software. Sunday, November 04, 2012. OSGi is a module system and service platform for the Java platform. For the module system, it extends the code level visibility controls that Java provides via the private, protected, public and package-private access. An application is usually packaged as multiple jars in java. Some of these are external libraries. With OSGi it is possible to specify version for a jar and dependency information between jars. In OSGi the unit of modularity is ca...

CodeWord - Thoughts on Software. Friday, December 24, 2004. Herb Sutter, a C heavyweight, writes about the next evolution in programming in The Free Lunch is over: A fundamental turn toward concurrency in software. He acknowledges that Moore's law is going to (has already? I think to become as wide spread as OOP, where everyone can easily adapt to the paradigm, it needs to be simplified. Java and .NET have threading built into the platform, which is a start. They have made it easier. Onyem - Java Tracer.

codeWord - Thoughts on Software: Spring vs Guice default scopes

CodeWord - Thoughts on Software. Thursday, January 03, 2013. Spring vs Guice default scopes. Spring and Guice are popular Inversion Of Control (IoC) frameworks. One of the most important aspects of IoC is how the framework creates new instances for value. This is the Scope. Some of the scopes are-. Singleton (Spring default) - A single instance is created by the IoC container for the entire application lifetime. Prototype (Guice default) - A new instance is created whenever a value is needed.
