Advancing cricket statistics | Running the cutter sports blog

Running the cutter sports blog. One Kiwi guy's thoughts on all things sport related. New Zealand Cricket prospects list. October 11, 2013. I read a very interesting piece on cricket stats. This week and my large number of regular readers will know this is a subject very close to my heart. One thing I really hate is the suggestion that things like dropped catches or poor umpiring decisions balance out in the end because I don’t think anyone has ever done the work to know if they do or not. It is just ...

Running the cutter sports blog. One Kiwi guy's thoughts on all things sport related. Five ways for New Zealand Cricket to improve the Black Caps. October 29, 2013. Back in April this year I wrote an unposted blog that looked at five areas I felt New Zealand Cricket needed to do to allow the Black Caps to deliver on their potential. Those five areas were:. Allow New Zealand A players to get meaningful experience. Fix the contracting system. Commit to a group of players and develop depth. Tim Southee is th...

Running the cutter sports blog. One Kiwi guy's thoughts on all things sport related. New Zealand v West Indies Test Series Preview. November 21, 2013. Thankfully the last five years have seen the West Indies encounter similar issues, they have just three players back from 2008, and though they are ranked comfortably ahead of us across all three formats the test series should be close and perhaps even in New Zealand’s favour. Martin Guptill – Currently out with an injured ankle and even when fit he ...

Running the cutter sports blog. One Kiwi guy's thoughts on all things sport related. Bruce Martin shouldn’t be playing international cricket. October 16, 2013. Using the assistance of the excellent cricinfo.com commentary team here are all 12 wickets. See if you can note any common themes. Ian Trott c Boult b Martin swept at, straight up in the air and taken at short long leg, a good catch running in by Boult diving forward. Trott was trying to play towards the vacant area at deep square leg but top ...

Running the cutter sports blog. One Kiwi guy's thoughts on all things sport related. Doing the baggy green proud. March 13, 2013. Things are going great – have you seen the size of my IPL contract? I agree completely with the stance taken by Mickey Arthur and Michael Clarke. A number of ex-players jumped to the defense of the fallen four but these ex-players are completely missing the point. If Arthur and Clarke are going to send a message about what playing in the Baggy Green means I think now is the pe...

Running the Cottage
Monday, April 11, 2011. Spring Cleaning: Out with the Old, In With the Minimalism! Minimalism.the most cluttery thing about the word is the accumulation of letters to form it. Beyond that.it's a great word and one that's showing up more and more. I think a lot of people are just getting tired of stuff- excessive stuff. Too many clothes, too many shoes, too many "gotta have it-why did I buy that" souvenirs, etc. We are indeed consumers; sometimes oddly so. How many of them are actually worn regularly?

Running the Count Full. An irreverant look at the sports world, its pomposity, its significant and memorable distinctions, and the diverse characters that act out its script - with a little Philly flavor to it. Monday, October 01, 2007. I quickly answered myself. No. In fact, no amount of celebration could be enough for what happened in September. Somehow they just don't seem to do the job. I can't even imagine the scene yesterday. I had chills just watching it from a barstool. When I'm at the game, besi...

Corporations are Running The Country and controlling the government. Climbing Bear Lake on Bear Mountain in Sitka Alaska. July 26, 2015. On July 20, 2015, thanks to Brittany’s persistence, Kris, Brittany, and I finally did what we should have done many years ago: we climbed Bear Mountain to Bear Lake. Brit wanted to do an epic climb before returning to Oahu for her final semester of college. Our Bear Lake hike was a great way for Kris and me to share our 26th wedding anniversary with Brittany. Imagine wa...
