AP Language: A Never-Ending Cycle
http://aplangks.blogspot.com/2009/03/never-ending-cycle.html
Monday, March 9, 2009. Just as the United States government has a system of checks and balances, society as a whole has its own similar system. It is this system which creates a cyclic pattern of morals and attitudes flowing throughout society. Extremes still exist throughout this cycle; extremes similar to the warnings from George Orwell and Aldous Huxley in their dystopian novels 1984. And Brave New World. 8230;people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World. Postman’s assertion that...

The delayed reactions of the six-year-old little girls had the crowd laughing on that humid evening in July. Susie’s mother winced as her daughter entered the pool via belly-flop just a few seconds after the gun sounded. It took them a good minute to get the other side, but each one of the swimmers made it. Friday, October 3, 2008. Why I Write, by Ishmael Beah. I am not a writer. I am a storyteller. I am not a storyteller by choice. I am a storyteller out of necessity. The decision was final - I would release these nagging stories through the pen. After revisiting a plethora of emotional experiences, the job was finally through. The result? A Long Way Gone.". AP Language: This I Believe
http://aplangks.blogspot.com/2009/06/this-i-believe.html
Tuesday, June 2, 2009. I believe in a thing called procrastination. But there are nonbelievers who try to bring me over to The Other Side– they say if I came home and started my homework right away, I would have an hour or two before I go to bed to relax and enjoy myself. They say I would be less stressed and less miserable. They say I would get better grades and maybe even enjoy school more. They say I would get more sleep and feel better the next day. But I do come home and start my homework right away.

AP Literature: November 2007
http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 07, 2007. Symbolism is used rampantly throughout Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. And tulips are one of the less discussed symbols. The tulips, quite simply, represent a Handmaid's menstruation cycle. Every time tulips appear in the novel, Atwood is describing what stage of life they are in. These quotes are ordered from the beginning stage of the cycle to the end:. The tulips have had their moment and are now done, shedding their petals one by one, like teeth" (153). Ordinary, ...

AP Literature: Shakespeare's Tragedy: Macbeth
http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2008/06/shakespeares-tragedy-macbeth.html
Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare develops this tragedy by creating a character who is struggling through the worst battle one can endure – one against himself. This tragic figure along with the bloody imagery, murders, and the dark tone from the start of the play, “ (Thunder and lightning. Enter three Witches. When shall we three meet again /. In thunder, lightning, or in rain? When the hurlyburly's done, /. When the battle's lost and won. That will be ere the set of sun. While a true man. Would have t...

Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare's History: Richard III. My kingdom for a horse! Richard III has such incredible control over every aspect of his life, and even controls the lives of others around him. He has a brilliant mind and is master at using language and betrayal to his advantage. The only real challenge Richard faces in the play is when another young man who is good with words converses with him. Richard’s only vulnerability is exposed during his final moment, in battle. I also found that readi...

Saturday, June 7, 2008. Taming of the Shrew-Passage Analysis. Petruchio is desperately trying to break Kate and have her conform to society's standards of what a woman and wife should be; and, the scene where Katherine and Petruchio are riding into town and he is trying to convince her the bright sun they see is actually the moon is humorous but also alarming.
