Ryan in the Antarctic

Ryan in the Antarctic. Sunday, 13 February 2011. Station 60 and the zen of Sky-Blu. So, how’s life been for everyone in the last month? Anyone else have a deep life-changing journey into the depths of isolation and sensory deprivation? My last post was correct. The next morning, I hopped on a Twin Otter to go to Sky-Blu, the field camp from which I would get out to the Evans Ice Stream, where I was to – surprise, surprise – raise and install GPS sites. The team at the point was:. You know who I am. But t...

Ryan in the Antarctic: February 2009

http://ryantarctic.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Ryan in the Antarctic. Tuesday, 24 February 2009. Back on the ship. In the same cabin, even. Halley is behind me. Next stop: Signy, in the South Orkney Islands. The last few days were slightly hectic, but finished on a good note. One interesting development: no sooner does one mention a Norwegian, and suddenly poof! They materialize in your midst. Suddenly, Norwegians asserted their treaty rights to a base inspection. And they are now on their own until next November. They weren't the only ones to se...

Ryan in the Antarctic: January 2008

http://ryantarctic.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html

Ryan in the Antarctic. Sunday, 27 January 2008. Hinge Zone 2: The Trouble with Trimbles. However, this week it was time to finish our dark business in the hinge zone. We had more great weather, so Rich and I geared up for another day of linked travel to make our measurements at the boringly-named "Site 6". That was the one that bad weather had cut short our last time. Well, at least the Internet is still worki ¬ NO CARRIER. Sunday, 20 January 2008. Second stop on the Halley Tour: Laws Building. When you ...

Ryan in the Antarctic. Friday, 30 January 2009. Fly like an . Antarctic petrel. And today concludes the Halley airplane field season. Whew. My last flight was today. I thought that that would end my busy period, but now the station science season is in full force. As the interim science coordinator, I now have to pay attention to science activities on base that I had previously ignored, or at least evaded. And this is my airport. Security is a breeze, but the Star Alliance lounge is somewhat limited.

Ryan in the Antarctic: December 2007

http://ryantarctic.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Ryan in the Antarctic. Saturday, 29 December 2007. My life has expanded so much in the last few days! I've gone so far beyond avtur in the things that Rich and I transport, that I wonder if I can handle much more innovation. Like a job where I don't transport stuff up an ice shelf for 12 hours a day! 10, if breaks are taken out.). So, my time on the Shack may be drawing to a close. But a storm may blow in tonight and delay everything. We shall see. You may recognize some of it from my blog: terms like ga...

Ryan in the Antarctic: March 2009

http://ryantarctic.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Ryan in the Antarctic. Sunday, 15 March 2009. Cambourne. The future of British lifestyle, a planned community centred around a Morrison's supermarket. It's quite a distance from the nearest five-star pub. But for the moment, it's my home. I'm back. My visit to the Falkland Islands lasted from Saturday morning to Tuesday morning. I was woken up by the Falklands by its smell -. And saw a few Magellan (? On the way back, I had a good view of some ships. Two worked, two didn't. The two beached hulks each hav...

Back to School: Meanwhile, in the Antarctic...

http://educatingbecky.blogspot.com/2007/12/meanwhile-in-antarctic_06.html

V mature student reading English at Cambridge. What started off as a teenage-style diary, and an excuse to send fewer e-mails, has now become a page consisting mainly of lists and extremely random thoughts. Such is the rich tapestry of life. Thursday, December 06, 2007. Meanwhile, in the Antarctic. Found in the goody cupboard at his base. People often find their way to this blog by googling "rhubarb phobia" but I don't think this is quite what they would be expecting. How wrong is that? I'm living in the...

Ryan, Tara, and all the girlies

Having four daughters is quite an adventure. True, Ryan will never get to send them off to scout camp, and may never have a missionary out in the field, but he will always be their number one guy! We love to go to drive-in movies, go camping, and have sleepouts in the front room with all the mattresses. We have the coolest family ever . . .some may say I am biased, but I don't think so. Ryan, Tara, and all the girlies. Sunday, March 18, 2012. Kylee's Rise To Fame. Oh my, oh my! Saturday, March 17, 2012.

Ryan Tardiff's Blog of Ephemera and Things | Pop Culture and Other Bullshit

Pop Culture and Other Bullshit. Ryan Tardiff's Blog of Ephemera and Things. So, then is the film as bad as some might say? No, surely it is not. It’s very lovely to look at, is ambitious in its scope and plotting and is enjoyable to watch in many respects. Is it as good as its boosters claim? No, regrettably, it’s a bit of a mish mash of ideas, has a largely wooden lead performance by Taylor Kitsch and has some regrettably awful dialogue at times. Then I’d read the whole thing and get to weigh in&#...
