Replacing a Kitchen Counter | Sawdust & Woodchips

http://sawdustandwoodchips.com/replacing-a-kitchen-counter

Classes @ S & W. Replacing a Kitchen Counter. I had just finished a kitchen cabinet. For a colleague and I were talking about redoing kitchens, specifically countertops. So this is a quick post about the refurbishment of our kitchen. The old Corian counter needed to go. It was badly scored and chipped and several burn marks. Ripping out the Corian. Better to do it now – the original was pretty much cobbled together with some very odd hardware. The corner is jointed using herring bone. On July 8, 2015 at ...

Hand Tools – Starting out | Sawdust & Woodchips

http://sawdustandwoodchips.com/hand-tools-starting-out

Classes @ S & W. Hand Tools – Starting out. We have one drawer in our kitchen that contains our shared tools. The tools we reach for when something needs doing and I don’t want to trek to the woodshop to get. Tools It’s a set of tools that has taken years to refine, based totally on our needs. You could call them ‘Necessary Tools’. English Joiner’s through the years have used a small selection of tools and were able to produce a wide variety of beautiful furniture. So what’s in the tool kit:. If you woul...

Classes @ S & W. Part 2 – Using Hand Tools and Traditional methods. Part 1 is available here. M ake a tabletop. The second of several articles on using hand tools. This article first appeared in The GMC Group’s Publication Woodwork Craft Issue 2 July 2015. To make a tabletop, we need the widest and most stable boards we can find. The most stable wood is quartersawn, where the wood is sawn radially out from the centre of the log, with annular rings running perpendicular to the board’s face. It’s hard to f...

She saws seashells by the seashore – Little Room Works

https://southernnightswoodwork.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/she-saws-seashells-by-the-seashore

Fine Woodwork with Jonathan Price. February 27, 2015. August 28, 2016. She saws seashells by the seashore. I was poking around in my parents’ garage the other day and found something I’ve never seen before. This is especially strange since their garage is well organized and I’ve spent a ton of time there over the last 15 or years or so. Time to clean it up and really see what I have here. I let the saw sit overnight and then wiped it down again with WD-30 and 3-in-1 oil, which I use on all my tools.

Pursuing a hobby working with wood. Down below are the tools I own and the tools I plan to own. There are a few more tools in my shop than this, but these are the tools I consider my core set – ones that I have specifically for woodworking. Reading what others have written, these tools are all considered – for the most part – essential. Starting out, I didn’t know what all I didn’t have. I needed a place to start from. My initial list comes from Chris Schwarz. And his book The Anarchist’s Tool Chest.

The sawhorse that almost wasn’t. – Little Room Works

https://southernnightswoodwork.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/the-sawhorse-that-almost-wasnt

Fine Woodwork with Jonathan Price. April 9, 2015. April 9, 2015. The sawhorse that almost wasn’t. I’ve been gone a little longer than I had anticipated. A few weeks ago we went on vacation so the week prior to that all my free time was devoted to getting ready to take 5 people and a dog north for 7 days. Then, I went to attach the long stretchers and the legs on each side were out of plane with each other. So I skipped the side stretchers. Other than flush cutting the tops of the legs, it’s done. You&#82...
