By Denise Gaul – virtual apprentice. The Virtual Apprentice Goes to School. March 23, 2015. May 8, 2015. Well, it’s taken me a bit longer than I expected to write my second blog, but better a late second than no second entry. Having spent an inordinate amount of time watching “how to” videos and combing the internet for inspiration, I knew I needed something to help me shift my time from observing to making. I’m fortunate to live near Red Rocks School of Fine Woodworking and Luth. Fantastic second post D...

The pursuit of handcrafted excellence by a dude named Joe. 17th Century Carving, samples. One of the great things about this class was all the samples Peter Follansbee brought with him. He encouraged all of us to take as many photos as we wanted, soI obliged. I used my Ashahi SMC macro on some, my Meyer-Optik Gorliz Pentacon wide-angle on others, all taken with my Pentax K-5 IIs DSLR. February 10, 2014. Posted by joecrafted on February 10, 2014. 17th Century-style Carving, a few shots, day 2. Just stumbl...

She saws seashells by the seashore – Little Room Works
https://southernnightswoodwork.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/she-saws-seashells-by-the-seashore
Fine Woodwork with Jonathan Price. February 27, 2015. August 28, 2016. She saws seashells by the seashore. I was poking around in my parents’ garage the other day and found something I’ve never seen before. This is especially strange since their garage is well organized and I’ve spent a ton of time there over the last 15 or years or so. Time to clean it up and really see what I have here. I let the saw sit overnight and then wiped it down again with WD-30 and 3-in-1 oil, which I use on all my tools.

Pursuing a hobby working with wood. Down below are the tools I own and the tools I plan to own. There are a few more tools in my shop than this, but these are the tools I consider my core set – ones that I have specifically for woodworking. Reading what others have written, these tools are all considered – for the most part – essential. Starting out, I didn’t know what all I didn’t have. I needed a place to start from. My initial list comes from Chris Schwarz. And his book The Anarchist’s Tool Chest.

The sawhorse that almost wasn’t. – Little Room Works
https://southernnightswoodwork.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/the-sawhorse-that-almost-wasnt
Fine Woodwork with Jonathan Price. April 9, 2015. April 9, 2015. The sawhorse that almost wasn’t. I’ve been gone a little longer than I had anticipated. A few weeks ago we went on vacation so the week prior to that all my free time was devoted to getting ready to take 5 people and a dog north for 7 days. Then, I went to attach the long stretchers and the legs on each side were out of plane with each other. So I skipped the side stretchers. Other than flush cutting the tops of the legs, it’s done. YouR...
