August 16, 2012. Saturday was the big day. My. For the summer, Howl at the Moon. An 8 Hour ultramarathon, took place just outside of my hometown of Danville, IL. January 4, 2013. October, November, December 2012. Well, it's been a while. November and December were a little bit crazy for me on account of a project I was working on in my spare time. Some other guy (not me). Cycling was virtually non-existent for me the past few months. I did one cyclocross race in November on no training and somehow still wound up with a good result. The lack of bike miles towards the end of the year almost allowed my modest running mileage to catch up. Photo of the Day. Forest Par...

March 30, 2010. Work well enough to prevent me from replacing them immediately. Then time passed. On top of that, between Melissa and me, we have seven bikes with 9-speed Shimano components, which are getting harder and harder to find. The world moved to 10-speed years ago and left me behind. Well, without further ado, here's the obligatory bike porn. How did the hottness perform tonight? March 31, 2010 at 7:54 PM. March 31, 2010 at 9:20 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). September 11, 2011. Forest Park Cross Country Festival. I screwed myself again, or so I thought. The week before I ran the Macklind Mile. In July I did a really hard speed workout, you know, to prepare for the race. Instead what happened is that my muscles were sore the rest of the week, including on race day. Having just completed three days of bike racing during Gateway Cup. The Forest Park Cross Country Festival. I finished about 30 seconds faster than last year (when I was in very good shape), and I ...

June 2, 2012. Remember how I said. April was my highest mileage month in over 10 years? Well, I ran 20 miles farther in May. And I really only did one. Run I did a number of shorter races ( 5K. With good results in each. I've built up a level of base aerobic fitness I haven't seen since college. I can run at a faster pace with a lower heart rate than at any time in the past 15 years. Of course, I do quite a bit of my training at a. Pace, which is one of the keys to such aerobic fitness. I sweat more anyb...

October 11, 2012. I continued doing a lot of shorter runs throughout September (if 8 miles per run can be considered short). More importantly I got back on track of running 3-4 times per week. I raced the Forest Park Cross Country Festival. My first race after the epic Howl. Later in the month I gradually started ramping my mileage up in preparation for. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My Name is Rob: Farmdale Trail Run
http://rob.ragfield.com/2012/10/farmdale-trail-run.html
October 16, 2012. Melissa and I ran the 30 mile Farmdale Trail Run. On Saturday near East Peoria, IL. We heard about this race just a couple weeks ago from our friend Chris. And since Melissa's parents live nearby they were able to watch Will while she and I spent hours in the woods. And I felt my fitness had even improved since then. She was worried that she would finish dead last, but she was right in the middle, 24th of 47 overall and 4th female. Pretty good for her first trail ultra. Photo of the Day.

July 30, 2012. Race to your strengths. Or: The Great Egyptian Omnium. My cat 4 teammate Jason and I rode the Great Egyptian Omnium in southern Illinois last weekend. It was a good event that both of us enjoyed. The second loop was much like the first, though the pack had thinned out a bit. There was a bit more cooperation and we were able to ride a bit harder into the wind. I was staying well hydrated. I had eaten reasonably well. I even took a few S! A couple of my teammates who were racing later in the...
