Saturday, May 1, 2010. Tour of St. Louis- a week late. Well, I actually raced my bike last week. It was kind of an accident. that is I was in St. Louis and I had my bike and there was a race. The race was the Carondelet Circuit Race- the Saturday morning race in the Tour of St Louis. I was really not looking forward to it. I had been sick all week, not sleeping and coughing compulsively. However, I had preregistered and I couldn't bare to let that $30.00 go to waste. Monday, April 12, 2010. This is a lit...

An Incurable: October 2009

http://scienceneardaily.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 25, 2009. So I think cyclocross season has officially kicked off for me. Well. mentally I had slated last weekends Saturday/Sunday combo. However, after last week I was really too tired to write anything blogwise about it. So As opposed to including all these sundries in the text, I decided I would include a list of things I learned this weekend. I remembered how little White Castle cheeseburgers resemble cheeseburgers, or really food in general. Mexican restaurants attached to Best Weste...

An Incurable: Mount Pleasant Winery Cyclocross.

http://scienceneardaily.blogspot.com/2009/11/mount-pleasant-winery-cyclocross.html

Monday, November 23, 2009. Mount Pleasant Winery Cyclocross. Normally I would take this moment to make fun of the label "mount" placed onto this place. However, after having ridden 8 (I think? I honestly lost track of how many) laps of this course, I feel I am in no place to make light of the elevation change here. I was physically and mentally drained. completely. light headed and confused for the majority of it. Mount Pleasant is in Missouri "Wine Country" which surprisingly makes. I really wish I coul...

An Incurable: Washington MO CX

http://scienceneardaily.blogspot.com/2009/12/washington-mo-cx.html

Monday, December 14, 2009. The field was fairly small. I think something like 15 people maybe. I actually got lined up in the front row! This was exciting. I was second or third wheel at the start. which was largely determined not by sprinting but by who managed to get traction in the mud. At one point I actually was riding in the lead of a cyclocross race. this felt both mysterious and good. There was a brief moment when I was thinking I could win. February 2, 2010 at 6:50 PM. January 4, 2013. October, November, December 2012. Well, it's been a while. November and December were a little bit crazy for me on account of a project I was working on in my spare time. Some other guy (not me). Cycling was virtually non-existent for me the past few months. I did one cyclocross race in November on no training and somehow still wound up with a good result. The lack of bike miles towards the end of the year almost allowed my modest running mileage to catch up. Photo of the Day. Forest Par...

March 30, 2010. Work well enough to prevent me from replacing them immediately. Then time passed. On top of that, between Melissa and me, we have seven bikes with 9-speed Shimano components, which are getting harder and harder to find. The world moved to 10-speed years ago and left me behind. September 11, 2011. Forest Park Cross Country Festival. I screwed myself again, or so I thought. The week before I ran the Macklind Mile. In July I did a really hard speed workout, you know, to prepare for the race. Instead what happened is that my muscles were sore the rest of the week, including on race day. Having just completed three days of bike racing during Gateway Cup. The Forest Park Cross Country Festival. I finished about 30 seconds faster than last year (when I was in very good shape), and I ...

October 16, 2012. Melissa and I ran the 30 mile Farmdale Trail Run. On Saturday near East Peoria, IL. We heard about this race just a couple weeks ago from our friend Chris. And since Melissa's parents live nearby they were able to watch Will while she and I spent hours in the woods. And I felt my fitness had even improved since then. She was worried that she would finish dead last, but she was right in the middle, 24th of 47 overall and 4th female. Pretty good for her first trail ultra. Photo of the Day.

July 30, 2012. Race to your strengths. Or: The Great Egyptian Omnium. My cat 4 teammate Jason and I rode the Great Egyptian Omnium in southern Illinois last weekend. It was a good event that both of us enjoyed. The second loop was much like the first, though the pack had thinned out a bit. There was a bit more cooperation and we were able to ride a bit harder into the wind. I was staying well hydrated. I had eaten reasonably well. I even took a few S! A couple of my teammates who were racing later in the...
