Saturday, January 13, 2007. Salzkammergut (Lake District) Hallstatt, Austria, October 1, 2:. From Dachau we drove south to Hallstatt, slightly south and east of Salzburg. It is a village on Lake Hallstatt. We drove through narrow mountain roads with spectacular scenery to arrive there. If ever the on-line map failed (and it fails often), this was the worst. Black Forest -Baden Baden September 24, 25, 26:. This was our first look at a Black Forest village. Just like in the fairy tales! Vineyards and castle ruins above Staufen. The Merkur is very close to the center of town and walking distance from everywhere!

Friday, January 12, 2007. Book to read and take:. Germany, Austria and Switzerland (the latest version). Things to remember/take for the trip:. 1 A light backpack for carrying accessories, camera, ipod, etc. 2 Light weight umbrellas, preferably one per for person. 3 Really good walking shoes, we walked a lot. 4 Dark glasses, hat and sunscreen. 5 220V-110V adapter (just the plug connector). 7 A hip pouch for passport and money (see Rick Steve book), even Suchi who was not for it initially likes it now.
