太陽電池 PV Photovoltaic は、太陽の光エネルギーを吸収して直接電気に変えるエネルギー変換器 10。 この太陽電池を用いて、太陽の光エネルギーを直接電気に変換する発電方式を 太陽光発電システム PVPS Photovoltaic Power System という。 もしも地球全体に降り注ぐ太陽エネルギーを100 変換できるとしたら、 世界の年間消費エネルギーを、わずか1 時間でまかなうことができるほど巨大なエネルギーであり、しかも、枯渇する心配がない。 しかし、 2005年にFIT制度 Feed-in tariff 逆潮流電力の優遇固定買取り制度 を積極的に採用したドイツに抜かれ、 2007年の段階では第2 位の1919MWとなっている。 日本では今後の対策として、 太陽光発電導入量を2005年比で2020年までに10倍、 2030年までに40倍に引き上げる との政府ビジョンが提案されている 2008年7月時点。 発電された電力を、商用電力と同じ電圧 周波数に変換し、 商用電力に混ぜて使用する 連系。
