As the dust settles on 2016, everyone, no matter their political persuasion, seems to be in agreement: the year was tumultuous and filled with uncertainty and upheaval. Unfortunately, social care was not immune from the sense of foreboding. It felt that, as the weeks went by, stories of social care in ‘crisis’ became increasingly common and more alarmist in tone. How many people who are deafblind are there? Sense estimates there are approximately 358,000 people in the UK who are deafblind. This estimate is based on a number of research projects undertaken in the last 20 years. In 2010, the Centre for Disability Research (CeDR). 358,000 people who are deafblind in the UK. 115,000 adults (aged 20-69).
