First Woven Handspun! – Lazykate Textile Artist
https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/05/25/first-woven-handspun
May 25, 2014. A few posts back I posted photos of handspun yarn I’d spun to use in my first attempt at weaving. Although I was incredibly excited about starting weaving, I felt overwhelmed with the whole weaving process, it’s a pretty full on skill and I didn’t want to be a butterfly- fluttering around many crafts and not becoming proficient in any. Also, any spare headspace was taken up with Spinning and Dyeing classes, family and other responsibilities (not necessarily in order of importance). 9 though...

Pushing out of a Purple Patch – Lazykate Textile Artist
https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/06/10/pushing-out-of-a-purple-patch
Pushing out of a Purple Patch. June 10, 2014. June 10, 2014. The second Lazykate Spin In was just wonderful, we almost couldn’t fit everyone in! It was a cathartic way to spend an afternoon – with others who share a passion. We did allow a crocheter and a feltmaker in, and there was drum carding too so if you’d like to pop along next time and you do something slightly connected to spinning, we’d love to see you. Creative Textiles class at Knit Wise – Lazykate Textile Artist
https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/11/21/creative-textiles-class-at-knit-wise
Creative Textiles class at Knit Wise. November 21, 2014. November 21, 2014. Well I see the NHS claiming that the Flu jab program for this year is a success and having had the combined flu and pneumonia jab this week I can only think this is because it’s killing people before they can get the flu! Anyway, a few days off wasn’t so bad, it certainly got the creative ideas flowing. But what do we do with all these experiments? We might love the things we create but how to use them? The beauty of this class i...

Alysn Midgleow Martin Workshop – Lazykate Textile Artist
https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/12/08/254
Alysn Midgleow Martin Workshop. December 8, 2014. December 10, 2014. So after my last post about working alone, I was plunged into working among a group. I attended Alysn Midgelow Martin’s personal statement workshop at Art Van Go in Hertfordshire. I had a five and a half hour drive through rush hour and fog and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast with a shared bathroom where you weren’t allowed to use the bath but hey, no pain no gain. We started with monoprinting on paper. Alysn was a very helpful, hands on ...

Sketching for Inspiration – Lazykate Textile Artist
https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/11/03/sketching-for-inspiration
November 3, 2014. November 4, 2014. Sketching, I believe is an important part of creating. And because I believe it I usually have a sketchbook or notepad in my bag at all times. Most of them end up something like this. A great place to store a shopping list. If I’m feeling very creative it might end up like this. A holiday list. With bunting. Http:/ www.textileartist.org/bren-boardman-on-mind-maps-and-sketchbooks/. I found out that they are Rudbeckia or Black Eyed Susan seed heads. These happy littl...

Is it always healthy to work alone? – Lazykate Textile Artist
https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/11/26/is-it-always-healthy-to-work-alone
Is it always healthy to work alone? November 26, 2014. November 28, 2014. I was privileged on Monday to be able to go to work with my friend Paula of Paulafingers Contemporary Ceramics. Paula has a studio in Liverpool and it was interesting to be able to work in a space that wasn’t connected to a house, like mine is. While Paula’s studio is a space surrounded by other artists, often they work outside normal working hours and so Paula, like me spends hours working alone. How can it be improved? You are co...

Off-Roading – Danny Gregory
https://dannygregorysblog.com/2015/08/01/offroading
Inspiration for creative folks like you. August 1, 2015. A couple of days before we left, we had a big yard sale and emptied the cottage we’d occupied for a year. Then we hit the road with 666 dollar bills in the glovebox. And then I have sat down at this machine and kicked the blueprints under my desk. We have GPS and we are safe to wander. Posted in Advice and answers. On August 1, 2015 at 10:24 am. Another great post Danny. Your talking about the brain dovetails with my reading Iain McGhilchrist&#...

Rethinking my story. – Danny Gregory
https://dannygregorysblog.com/2015/07/28/rethinking-my-story
Inspiration for creative folks like you. July 28, 2015. Earlier this year, I got a lovely invitation to come out to Phoenix to talk about what I do. Jenny was born and raised there so we travel to Arizona at all times of the year to see her family and I have come to quite like the city and the desert. Besides, it was mid-winter and the idea of the desert in August had a powerful appeal. Now I have managed to turn all those pages into a brand-new story that I am really excited to present. And are in Rio V...

Can’t get into it. – Danny Gregory
https://dannygregorysblog.com/2015/08/04/cant-get-into-it
Inspiration for creative folks like you. August 4, 2015. Can’t get into it. As I brush my teeth, while I eat my cereal, on the train, as I walk down the street, before I turn the light out one of my chief pleasures has always been burying my nose in a book a few times a day. I just spent a few days on the beach with my pal Tommy Kane. Parked side-by-side in deck chairs, drawing and reading and napping. I read a handful of books, dipping back and forth, as I often seem to do these days. And all these word...

Rusty beans and dusty gold. – Danny Gregory
https://dannygregorysblog.com/2015/07/23/todays-lesson
Inspiration for creative folks like you. July 23, 2015. Rusty beans and dusty gold. One evening, you go to a friend’s house and she has rented a movie. She paid for it, but you get to watch it for free. You notice a bestseller on the table and ask if you can borrow it. Your friend waves it away and tells you how disappointing it was. Instead, she urges another book on you that you never knew about. That book changes your life. You read a review on Amazon for a product you have been considering for a whil...
