Shannon's Friends and Acquaintances Link Page. Not to be too presumptuous about claiming as friends people who I don't really know that well. The Japanese describe it as a dry personality. Anyway, here are some of the 'old folks' with web pages that I've bumped into on the web. There was a tendency to list them from most 'influential' first, but no insults are intended. This part has to be dedicated to Lafcadio Hearn, AKA Koizumi Yakumo, who wrote Glimpses of Unfamiliar Japan. No parody intended, though his objective was to highlight how weird the Japanese were, while my perspective is that they aren't so strange. But I liked his book, anyway. And I hope I'm not jumping too far to claim familiarity- but at this point I've been in Japan for over 11 years. The Alleys of Akihabara". I actually spent at least four years trying to see them, but only succeeded after I read an article explaining how they work. (It was published in the October 1994 issue of Computer. These are allegedly philosophical ramblings or essays wandering over a range of topics. Not sure what the deeper connections are, except that they all came from me and I hope that I'm a logically consistent person. However, I am going to make the effort to treat the topics as applications of the basic philosophy of mindscape versus landscape, as described in the first major section.
