Kankanaey: November 2009
http://kankanaey.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 28, 2009. The Calling of the Pen. Their pens are proven mightier than any sword. They helped bring down a system and forge a new government. The economy have risen and fallen with their words. They are the voices when the masses wanted to be heard, and they are tools for the leaders to inform the masses. They are the instruments that bridge the gap between the peoples of the country. When calamities struck, provisions were sent because their words had struck the good hearted people.

Kankanaey: Do artists think alike?
http://kankanaey.blogspot.com/2013/07/do-artists-think-alike.html
Monday, July 29, 2013. Do artists think alike? Someone commented recently about my photography habit, "dakayo nga talaga photographers, agpapada panunot yo" (you photographers really think alike). It made me think and I remembered one time I was with some photographers looking at world war two ruins. One of them commented that it would be nice to have a photo shoot with models near the ruins. It will be a distinctive effect with a beauty as the foreground and frenzied ruins in the background.

Monday, October 6, 2008. Kibungan: Where Monkeys Roamed. Deep gorges separating and isolating many sitios and barangays, rocky cliffs formed as human faces, and pine covered mountains that is said to resemble those of Switzerland. A place named after a primate. Increase of population in Kibunga escalated when the logging and mining industry expanded in the area. Bigger communities like those from Sagpat and Lobo were formed during the gold mines that closed down sometime in the 80s. Today Kibungan is sub...

Saturday, June 28, 2008. Returning home feeling sick after an extended coverage in the. Exhaustion, having to get up early and sleep late, the heat, and eating mostly meat. But in those mountains you get a lot of time for yourself. No cell phone signal, no internet, and no noisy traffic. Just friendly people still following the old Agricultural Calendar. That's why Sadanga was dubbed as "a living museum". Coming up soon in my blog will be the Agricultural Calendar cycle of the. Saturday, June 28, 2008.

Thursday, March 29, 2012. Panagbenga Festival, the Complexities. The 17th Panagbenga probably has presented one of the unique innovations done with its street dancing parade shifting from the original flower filled dances backed with pop music into cultural presentations. This and many other events earned lots of positive and negative reactions from the audience. I believe all festivals have complexities. During the early years of the Panagbenga festival, 2 minutes were allotted for each participant to p...

Saturday, October 13, 2012. Photography: Professionals, Hobbyists and Amateurs. Reading the endless debate about the definition of professional and hobbyist photographer, I want to write my own opinion on the issue. I’m not saying that hobbyists are no better than professionals. There are some who take photos that can blow your mind. Some hobbyists have innate art of seeing that the rest has yet to develop. In other words, gifted. I believe my short article has helped clear the issues between the differe...

Sunday, August 17, 2008. What I am going to talk about here is not the war dance of our Igorot tribes but a documentary film I recently watched, a movie about the Acholi tribes of. It’s about the lives of the people in a war zone torn by unending wars between the rebels and the Government. I wanted to watch the film to learn better documentation coz it has won several awards and was even nominated for Oscar. I learned more than just documentation here. To many of them, just going to. The Sherdang follows...

Saturday, January 14, 2012. Fun in the Philippines" Blunder. A photo of Thailand used in The Straits Times baring the new DOT campaign "It's more fun in the Philippines" is now one of the rising issues online. The photo below was credited to the Department of Tourism in the online version of the News paper. Here's the print version of the paper published on January 12, 2012. The photo was formerly published online showing the Shongkaran Festiva. Department of Tourism Blunder? Yet, if our Department Heads...

Kankanaey: September 2009

Friday, September 25, 2009. By Carl Cariño Taawan. The senate agreed to include a ninth ray on the Philippine flag's sun to symbolize the courage, bravery and integrity of Muslim Filipinos who fought for the nation's independence. Shouldn't the senate also include the mountain people who sacrificed so many lives to fight oppression? In the Spanish records, when their historians first arrived in La Trinidad, there were more than 100 houses in the valley. However, in the later remarks, there were only ...

Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Automated Election, Not Automatic. Technicians who don't know what they are doing, limited modems, modems that can't transmit, insufficient thermal paper, irregularities in transporting the machines. These things actually happened in so-called Summer Capital of the Philippines during the May 10, 2010 election. Some precincts were still working until 3 in the morning because of similar problems. The automation is not really automatic. When the counting is done, the CF cards should...
