As a photographer I enjoy looking for interesting light when I visit downtown Cleveland. These are the unique shadows and highlights that create special urban compositions. It's a challenge to create something really different that will make people stop and consider the image before them. I want to show something they haven't seen before. Politicians, construction wor...

Sunday, April 1, 2012. Fog On The Cuyahoga - Atmospheric Perspective. 169; Stuart Pearl 2012 -. Click on Images to Enlarge. We get all kinds of weather in Cleveland. "Lake Effect" can randomly dump snow, deliver rain, and cause fog when least expected. All this happens downtown and across both eastern and west suburbs. But the Flats Valley creates it's own atmospheric effects. I'm not attempting 3-D or stereoscopic photography. I'm just trying to create a visual experience that goes beyond the flat p...

Tuesday, August 14, 2012. Buffalo on the Cuyahoga. 169; Stuart Pearl 2012 -. Click on Image to Enlarge. It's probably been at least 150 hundred years since buffalo crossed the Cuyahoga if they ventured this far east. However, several weeks ago the 634' bulk freighter "Buffalo" quietly made its way up the river. Thursday, August 2, 2012. Mountains and Fountains - Decatur Deja Vu. 169; Stuart Pearl 2012 -. On clear days the bright sun is at a low angle during the golden hours. Fascinating shadows and interesting patterns often follow the bridges and urban sculptures found in Cleveland's Flats. In the picture above the current Innerbelt Bridge throws its shadow across the former site of Cleveland Cold Storage.

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. 169; Stuart Pearl 2014. Click on Image to Enlarge Photo Gallery. Demolition work began in December 2013 about a month after the new westbound Voinovich Bridge opened. Giant rotary saws started cutting the old concrete deck as the first steps in taking down the old bridge piece by piece. A small fleet of machines was used to pre-cut the roadway before jackhammers were moved in to begin breaking up the concrete. Workers are raised into position via "man cage" cranes where they use t...

Sunday, June 10, 2012. 169; Stuart Pearl 2012 -. Click on Image for Slideshow. That's how many bricks it took to build Fort Pulaski on the coast of Georgia back in the early 1800's. It's hard to grasp such a large number. But it becomes more meaningful. When you see the graceful shapes and curving designs created by all those bricks.
