Deborah Lawrenson: A sense of place
http://deborah-lawrenson.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-sense-of-place.html
Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Monday, 29 June 2015. A sense of place. The house dates from the 14th century - the attached barn is a couple of centuries younger - and on a quiet evening in slanting sunshine, it is possible to feel the history in every stone and slate. The garden wraps around it, crammed with border plants, divided into lawns and hedged outdoor rooms. It is a private property, and the gardens are not open to the public except on special occasions. Again in perfect tune...

Deborah Lawrenson: January 2015
http://deborah-lawrenson.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Sunday, 18 January 2015. When I returned from France in mid-September, I had a new book deal and a deadline. I thought it was going to be a bit tight, but there were exciting reasons why I wasn't going to argue. I would just put my head down and concentrate all my energies on writing, and I was sure that by the end of January, I would have a good first draft. I'll let you know the state of play at the end of the month. Thursday, 1 January 2015. Because of...

Deborah Lawrenson: Château la Verrerie – wine and art
http://deborah-lawrenson.blogspot.com/2015/08/chateau-la-verrerie-wine-and-art.html
Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Château la Verrerie – wine and art. The pale peachy rosé wine from the Château la Verrerie at Puget-sur-Durance has been a summer favourite. I first saw Olivier Boissinot's vibrant paintings of the calanques while trawling the internet looking for an illustration for an excerpt from. When I found his website, I found he had captured exactly what had been in my head when I wrote - the searing brightness of the sea against the grey cl...

Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Wednesday, 26 August 2015. Sanary - so not St Tropez. I really was working. The page proofs of the new novel,. 300 Days of Sun. Had to be painstakingly checked, mistakes hunted down and sentences forensically assessed. With the house full of visitors again, I couldn't see how it would get done, so this was my answer. Work in the morning, sun in the afternoon. Just out of town along the coast. D H Lawrence found some easing of his tuberculosis here, an...

Deborah Lawrenson: Quintessential Provence
http://deborah-lawrenson.blogspot.com/2015/07/quintessential-provence.html
Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. After sweltering heat, a cool breeze is playing and the days are rolling by. I will try to write something more interesting soon, I promise, but for now I have been pottering around the garden. This pot of very fragrant lavender from Roussillon is perfect on the table under the olive tree in the courtyard. One day, I fantasize, I will have a garden beyond as luxuriant as this one at the Chateau La Verrerie at Puget-sur-Durance.

Deborah Lawrenson: December 2014
http://deborah-lawrenson.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Sunday, 28 December 2014. In wood fire heat, in closed-door warmth, the perfume rises. White petals, pearl-glazed by glints of winter sun, release their incense. Sweet breaths of history blend with spiced fragments of the festival: old-English puddings, dried plums and orange (ashes on the tongue this year). Cut from the tightly-furled bulb, remembrance, these lilies are for my mother. The funeral flowers remain. My beloved mother Joy died twelve days ago...

Deborah Lawrenson: What's the story?
http://deborah-lawrenson.blogspot.com/2010/12/whats-story.html
Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Saturday, 11 December 2010. Meeting Dom was the most incredible thing that had ever happened to me. Like its owner, Les Genévriers is also changing. Bright, warm rooms have become cold and uninviting; shadows fall unexpectedly; lights flicker on their own; and Eve senses a presence moving through the garden. Is it a ghost from the past—or a manifestation of her and Dom’s current troubles? Can she trust Dom—or could her life truly be in danger? Is a grippi...

Provence, the Luberon and an old house on a hill. Monday, 28 July 2014. The island by bicycle. 8220;No cars were permitted on the island and most people who passed were on bicycles: dented, clicking, cumbersome machines of uncertain vintage, used by countless people on countless holidays.”. 8220;Scrubby evergreen bushes released a strong scent of resin and honey; forests of pine gave way to gentle south-facing vineyards.
