But to continue in Dicken style i soon felt my ‘winter of despair’ when I couldn’t find which species the bird belongs to! Somewhat resembling common house sparrow in colour, the bird has protruding round eyes and longish tail. Found it in the lesser Himalayas. Can a birder out there, help me with its name? Once at the Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan and second time in their colony at Delhi Zoo. There, they nest in tall bushes, tamarind and other native trees, within the artificial island. Colloquially known as dokh or janghil, this large bird is usually found in saltpans, freshwater marshes, lakes and reservoirs, freshwater swamp forest and river banks.
