Day 7 - Kallikoros to Marzamemi. Thursday, October 24. We did the easy ride today. We met on the nice patio overlooking the valley for the bike briefing, then headed to the beach! The ride was about 19 miles, mostly downhill, although it seems we go up just about as much as down. The destinations are a beach resort followed by lunch in Marzamemi, an ancient tuna fishing village. Looks like water, but those are greenhouses on the right. Day 4 - Poggio del Sole and the first ride. Monday, October 21. On the bus, heading out of Palermo. Sights on the way out of town. Old gate to Palermo. Jodie was our tour guide just for the trip over. She was very knowledgable and pointed out a lot of historic sights on the way out of town and talked about a lot of Sicilian history during the trip. Day 10 - Syracuse post trip. We signed up for the post trip in Syracuse. We had breakfast at the hotel, which had one more nice honeymoon touch:. Lisa took a few interesting pictures while we were waiting for our ride to Syracuse. Then we got in taxis and headed to Hotel Livingston Relais Spa. At the Livingston, I presume. Lisa found a flyer for a piano quartet concert. The duomo is built around an ancient Greek temple, the Greek columns are still in great shape. We had pizza at a place down this street.

Day 6 - Ride to Scicli and Modica. Wednesday, October 23, 2013. Today is a two part ride, first to Scicli (pronounced "shee clee") followed by lunch then a bus ride to Modica to visit a chocolate factory, then a nice 16 mile ride to our next hotel. After breakfast, we did the usual daily briefing at 8:30. From the VBT book:. We made sandwiches at breakfast and grabbed some fruit for our lunch, then headed out on the ride. Day 2 - The Journey Begins. Saturday, October 19. We arrived in Denver at 7:30 am, and had a 4 hour layover. We had scheduled the Boise-Denver leg ourselves based on the original itinerary from VBT, but VBT changed the schedule due to a possible strike somewhere.
