Burgeoning School Psychologist: March 2015
http://skoolpsych.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 12, 2015. I love that in an effort to keep his kiddos quiet and adhering to behavior expectations when walking in the hall, my elementary school music teacher plays his guitar softly while he walks his classes to the next place they have to be. If they can't hear the music, they're too loud and when they listen to the music he can play song requests. A unique interpretation of the PBIS expectations in my school and expressed in a most unique and fun way. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Burgeoning School Psychologist: Keep Calm and Rock On! You're a new school psychologist!
http://skoolpsych.blogspot.com/2013/07/keep-calm-and-rock-on-youre-new-school.html
Wednesday, July 24, 2013. Keep Calm and Rock On! Youre a new school psychologist! A few weeks ago, I received a twitter request to write a post about how to survive the first year of being a school psychologist. It took me a while to come up with this post, because it was quite overwhelming to think about. Should I provide suggestions for assessment? You've found a job! Second, my official and blatantly obvious disclaimer! Nothing I can tell you will fully prepare you for your first year because. Underst...
Burgeoning School Psychologist: Praxis preparation
http://skoolpsych.blogspot.com/2013/10/praxis-preparation.html
Saturday, October 26, 2013. I received a question today from Noelle a reader of my blog, asking about how to prepare for the praxis, and more importantly, how to prepare for the areas where one's fund of knowledge is pretty shallow. Noelle and a few other members of her cohort are beginning to stress a little about the exam, or as I would describe it in my own terms - freaking out. Well perhaps not so much! I looked through my blog because surely I would have written about it and huzzah I did! National A...

Burgeoning School Psychologist: New Feature - Book Review
http://skoolpsych.blogspot.com/2012/02/new-feature-book-review.html
Tuesday, February 14, 2012. New Feature - Book Review. As a lover of all things literary, I find that when face a challenge in interpreting an assessment, seeking out an intervention or just having an "I don't know the answer to this question! As a busy school psychologist and team chair, do I have time to read all these books? First up for review - Data Without Tears. As I have mentioned in the past, in my role as Team Chair, I also serve as the team leader of the special educators in my building. T...

Chopping Onions: The Truth is in Our Core | Chopping Potatoes

And other metaphors for motherhood. Chopping Onions: The Truth is in Our Core. Timely. Always, but especially today. Nothing in the world is permanent, and we’re foolish when we ask anything to last, but surely we’re still more foolish not to take delight in it while we have it. I thought I needed to keep it all to myself. That is what we are taught. This is the story of the day I realized I was much like an onion. These toasts and things are common at weddings. They are also common at graduations and.

And other metaphors for motherhood. A Few of My Favorite Things. When a knit stitch pulls through smoothly, with satisfaction. The strength of a bond pulled taut, in spite of the miles. Sun on your face. A wind rushing through the trees,. Upturned eyes searching for a brief blot of the sun,. Finding an osprey soaring high above. An upsurge of soul,. A welling of emotion. Fleeting, yet profound. We must seek these moments for all they are worth. By Jennifer Butler Basile. May 21, 2015. Shades of the Past.

And other metaphors for motherhood. Though I keep maintaining that this is not a blog about food, gastronomy and the many metaphors it provides have been an organizing factor😉. And so I offer you a bowl of cereal – I mean serial. When you want just a bite of the potatoes I’ve chopped, come take a sampling of some of the series I’ve developed. May is Mental Health Month:. Finding the Thyme: The Lighthouse Award
http://findingthethyme.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-lighthouse-award.html
Do what you love and love what you do.". Friday, March 7, 2014. Trying to use the kitchen as my self-care outlet. However, as grad school wore on, my recipe posts became far and few between. The only constant remained my work as a school psychologist. After some spring cleaning in the fall to make my blog focus strictly school psychology, I have "officially" published 60 posts (61 if you count this! I'm amazed, honored, flattered, and humbled to report that I have 28,279 all time page views! I have to ke...
Finding the Thyme: Data, Data, DATA!
http://findingthethyme.blogspot.com/2014/02/better-call-erika.html
Do what you love and love what you do.". Wednesday, February 26, 2014. Data, Data, DATA! The number of parent referrals for special education make me think that someone has written my email on the bathroom stall of every single establishment within the ten mile radius of my school. Better yet, there may have been a mailing or TV commercial. How do you "pick" which child gets tested first? But often what teachers say is:. They have been in Tier 3 since October and haven't made much progress! My school lea...

Burgeoning School Psychologist
Sunday, April 26, 2015. The joy of doing "Nothing". For the past glorious week, I've been on spring break. Away from the noise of school - which included the noise of testing, of meetings, of teachers, of parents. I've been home with my children, being an awesome mom and a lousy school psychologist by putting no limits on electronics, making no schedules or following any routines. I can proudly state that I don't know if my children bathed at all while they were on my watch. Thursday, March 12, 2015.
