Slate Grey, Lime and Hay. Thursday, 12 March 2015. From the hawthorn to the copper beech. My final visit to the hawthorn as it's Tree Follower was in beautiful warm spring sunshine. While photographing the tree, the distinctive song of a Chiffchaff cut through the other bird song - a true sound of spring. Interestingly it was a day earlier than last year. I am rather taken with its large sweeping bows and on a sunny spring day, the shadows these make on the ground below. Links to this post.

Before going to The Field to photograph this post, I expected that autumn leaves would be the main feature of this month, but it was the fungi that caught my attention. This tree was a magnificent Copper Beech, before it started dying a couple of years ago. This autumn, it is covered in clusters of white fungi. Slate Grey, Lime and Hay. Friday, 12 June 2015. The copper beech in june. The hue of the leaves is deeper now that the tree is in full leaf. Standing under the tree and looking up, the layering of the leaves in a variety of shades of red and green is quite something. On a bright day the dappled shade under the tree is welcomed.
