LAST PAY DAY WALK | Olivia Abbott
https://slipperywitch.wordpress.com/2015/09/26/last-pay-day-walk
Editorial and photography services. Writer, editor, photographer. LAST PAY DAY WALK. September 26, 2015. On Friday, we made the trip, and we were lucky enough to have a beautiful, sunny evening. I ate blackberries and pondered collecting elderberries while Bert hunted for imaginary rabbits in the undergrowth. Even the slightly spooky, claustrophobic walk back through the over-head-high maize field didn’t dampen our spirits. This entry was posted in Shropshire. Old Oswestry Hill Fort. Editorial and photography services. Writer, editor, photographer. BUTTERFLIES ON THE LINE. June 18, 2015. I spent rather a lot of time chasing butterflies, willing them to stay still long enough for photos, while Bert chased imaginary squirrels and hunted for rabbits. We were having so much fun we were rather late home for tea. The delay was caused by butterflies on the line. This entry was posted in Wales. A NOT SO SECRET DISCOVERY. Editorial and photography services. Writer, editor, photographer. A NOT SO SECRET DISCOVERY. June 13, 2015. A Bert bottom among the buttercups. You wouldn’t honestly know it as you drive by – the visitor centre is there for all to see, with its turf roof and plenty of publicity for its mammoth replica – but behind the building you can see from the road is a big, open nature reserve, dog friendly – no, better than that, dog. Wide open spaces…. Was patrolling part of the path. The raggidiest peacock ever.

Editorial and photography services. Writer, editor, photographer. HIGH AS A KITE. May 31, 2015. Yesterday we went to Bwlch Nant yr Arian, the red kite feeding station, and I attempted to get some photos of the proceedings…. These are the best of 400-and-some-odd that were taken (and mostly subsequently deleted)! This entry was posted in birds. And tagged bird watching. A HIGH OLD TIME ON HELVELLYN. Wild Walks Wales : The Precipice Walk
http://wildwalkswales.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-precipice-walk.html
Sunday, 1 December 2013. Walking at Llyn Cynwch in the autumn. This is one of the nicest ways of spending an hour or so if you're in the Dolgellau area. I just love the gentle paths alongside the calm waters of Llyn Cynwch, where the roots of ancient trees - oak, ash, rowan, alder - are reflected in the shining levels. Trees at Llyn Cynwch on the Precipice Walk. Lovely reflections on the lake. The view from Llyn Cynwch to the north west, to the mountain of Rhobell Fawr in the Arenig range. Olivia Abbott ...

Sunday, 1 December 2013. The Scale of Things. I've just moved this post from my old Wordpress blog, as I think it's worth keeping out there for walkers to read:. So, now is your chance to learn something about maps. Today we’re going to look at the scale of maps, and the bewildering variety of maps available to buy. The 1:50,000 scale is one of the most commonly used scales in mapping in the UK. The others that we tend to use a lot for walking are 1:25,000 (so everything on the map is 25,000 times sm...

Wild Walks Wales : The Hirnants
http://wildwalkswales.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-hirnants.html
Sunday, 1 December 2013. The Hirnant hills are really an extension of the western side of the Berwyn mountains. However, I always think they are sufficiently set apart from the Berwyn to be thought of as worthy of the hillwalkers' attention in their own right. Arenig Fawr from Moel y Cerrig Duon. Tuesday, 10 December 2013. A very successful weekend. Last weekend I held a map and compass course. Well, actually a National Navigation Award Scheme Silver training and assessment course. The venue for this was the Berwyn range, and the course candidates made the most of the superb walking in the area, whilst also learning the required skills at Silver level. So, by the end of the weekend they'd all climbed Craig Rhiwarth, Y Clogydd, and skirted around Post Gwyn quite a bit! So, where are we? Crib Goch,...

It Makes Sense to Me
August 8, 2015. The Little Heart Kept Beating- -Beating, Beating, Beating: Then it Stopped. IT MAKES SENSE TO ME. What is so astonishing is that so many folks do not see anything wrong with participating in a holocaust that has claimed more than fifty million lives. Many of these people seem to be no different than me. They work, pay their bills, mow their lawns, and celebrate Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July. Yes, and they go to church and pray too. I had killed a human being. Some information for th...

Slippery Words | Because words are slippery little suckers
Who is J.D. Blackrose? Things I’ve learned as a slush reader. January 9, 2017. Hey everyone. I thought I would write a blog on some of the key pitfalls I see as a slush reader. If you can avoid these things, it will make your submission stand out. Follow the guidelines. I know everyone says this but you would be shocked at how many people submit not double-spaced, not in the right word count, and some with editing marks still in the manuscript. These lead to an automatic rejection. December 12, 2016.
