Fourteen secrets of a Portuguese bird guide | Slow Birding
https://slowbirding.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/fourteen-secrets-of-a-portuguese-bird-guide
Get a little more out of your birding day. Birding from Lisbon, Portugal. Fourteen secrets of a Portuguese bird guide. July 22, 2015. Joan E. Strassmann. There are many reasons to bird Portugal. We were lucky to have Bernardo Barreto as our guide. As always with birds, we learned more about life than just about birds. Look under every bridge, into every thicket, and at every rock pile. Across the cork forest by the pond we saw a European kingfisher glint past. Consider the tide, the light, and the wind.

How did it get there? If you are ...

Get a little more out of your birding day. Mexican-Ecuadoran secrets of the tufted jay, Cyanocorax dickeyi. Fourteen secrets of a Portuguese bird guide →. Birding from Lisbon, Portugal. July 22, 2015. Joan E. Strassmann. Picked us up in his dark Ford at 7:30 from the Hotel Berna. We drove northeast out of Lisbon, crossing the Tagus. On what might be called the third bridge, upstream from the 25 April bridge, half closed for a film shoot. The Saturday was cloudy and cool, but we knew it would not rain.

Three cool spots – September 18 and 19 | RiverGIS
https://rivergis.wordpress.com/2013/10/03/three-cool-spots-september-18-and-19
Three cool spots – September 18 and 19. None of these three sanctuaries in central and western Mass. has yet to earn a Hot Spot designation in eBird, but I hoped to be surprised. And I was. Growing increasingly guilty about the amount of gasoline that I have been burning for this project, I decided to bird these three in a two-day loop staying overnight in Pittsfield. So, I packed up for two days and headed west early in the morning. I had seen the fanny pack with the field guide in the car the previous ...

North Hill Marsh – Dogs? 8211; October 21. This is one of the few sanctuaries that is jointly managed, in this case with the Duxbury Conservation Commission. It is difficult to tell when you are on Mass Audubon property or town property. As a result, I saw almost as many dogs as people, though not many of either. (Some of the people were leashed, but most were not.). Cmd=decisionPage&getLocations=hotspots&hotspots=L207449&yr=all&m=. You have to love a place that has both birds and dogs. November 7, 2013.

Eagle Lake – high canopy hideout – September 27. I woke up this morning faced by several chores that I had been putting off for some time. So, I did the only sensible thing and set out to bird a Mass Audubon sanctuary, Eagle Lake. The kiosk touting the high canopy feeding of colorful species didn’t give me any confidence that I was actually going to see any of them, especially against the bright, gray sky. Nevertheless, it was hard to feel anything but cheerful on such a beautiful early autumn morning.
