Just a Minor Patch - SlowerBuffer

Programming and Technology Related Stuff. Just a Minor Patch. So obviously testing is important. That’s not exactly deeply insightful; we all know this. Even the slightest, most unassuming change can have weird effects. We sometime try to forget this and say things like, That’s such a minor section, it shouldn’t break anything else. Talk like that is just asked the universe to remind you. What could go wrong? The software always checks its version number against the version number stored in the database ...

Reminded of RealPlayer - SlowerBuffer
http://www.slowerbuffer.com/blog/2014/02/17/reminded-of-realplayer
Programming and Technology Related Stuff. I have recently been reminded several times of RealPlayer, an application I had pushed far to the back of my mind. The first was that RealPlayer Cloud now supports the Chromecast. My first reaction was, “RealPlayer still exists. God no! Rdquo; I had not even known that Real was still in existence. The second was The Graph That Changed Me. A piece on how RealNetworks profits were almost exclusively tied to their poor/shady practises. Posted by Andrew McIntosh.

Rants and info from Andrew. Sunday, August 23, 2009. Talking to my fiancee today (who comes home in 2 days, woot! And during the course of our conversation she told me to never give up (it was in reference to my Alpha-dogging Toki. Wait, that sounded dirty (wait, I just used parentheses inside parentheses, like LISP. Anyhow, that instantly reminded us both of this awesome MuchMusic commercial from a few years ago. I just knew someone had to have posted it on YouTube. So here it is:. Sunday, August 9, 2009.

Rants and info from Andrew. Friday, January 15, 2010. The fact that I've actually kept up posting for two years amazes me. There are off months to be sure, but I really enjoy sharing whatever to whoever happens to read this. To quote my original introduction. I do not have vast or far reaching plan for this blog or any specific topic or theme. This will simply be a place where I will post news, things that amuse me, various pictures, etc. Purpose, I'm cool with that. Anyhow, a good day to you. Toronto Pr...

Rants and info from Andrew. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. This is an awesome baby outfit that I picked up from Jinx. A few years ago:. Anyway, back when I bought it I had no kids, but I figured I would someday and didn't want to miss this. Well, my announcement is that I'm now a daddy and this will be put to use sooner than later! So I plan to start posting again, or at least try to. What's been going on the past while? Got hired by my company full time (rather than contract). Note about the baby outfit:.

Rants and info from Andrew. Thursday, December 31, 2009. Goodbye 2009. In fact, goodbye to the 00's. Some have taken to calling them "the aughts", but I prefer "the ohs". Wherein I angrily bash the uselessness which is the ROM Crystal. I really hate the ROM Crystal. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal is the ridiculous extension to the Royal Ontario Museum. Placed it in the top 10 ugliest buildings in the world. Daniel Libeskind's addition to the Royal Ontario Muse...

http://blog.amcintosh.net/2010/04/d-encounters.html
Rants and info from Andrew. Thursday, April 15, 2010. I've been playing in a weekly Dungeons and Dragons game at my local gaming store. This is an initiative run by Wizards of the Coast. But beyond all of that, the Encounters program has been very awesome. The people I've played with have all been great, the two DMs I've sat with have been really solid, and the adventure itself is fun and nicely written for an event like this, with a fair bit of variety and some really interesting encounters. And has als...
amcintosh.net: Opera Mini
http://blog.amcintosh.net/2010/04/opera-mini.html
Rants and info from Andrew. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Opera Mini was release for the iPhone/ iPod. I've been fairly excited to see this since it was announced two months ago. While I've been fairly happy with my touch, I don't mind seeing improvements to web browsing, particularly anything that might improve those long, image heavy, blog-like sites that take two minutes to load on Mobile Safari. Am I replacing Safari with this? EDIT: Two things I've noticed. First, Opera wasn't working at my office until ...

Rants and info from Andrew. Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Gaming news from Korea. I've posted a bit about the Korean Starcraft obsession a few times in the past. Well, there's a bit of commotion going on in the Korean "e-sport" world with a scandal involving some of the top players, coaches, and organizers. This nicely illustrates how serious a thing Starcraft is in Korea. In other Korean gaming news, the government is planning to impose a nightly ban on online games. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). So turns out tennis players basically have the maths right. Why Tennis Players Don’t Take More Risks On Second Serves. If you’ve ever watched a tennis player dominate with the first serve but saw the second serve obliterated by the returner, you might have wondered: Why don’t more players go for it on their second serve?

Programming and Technology Related Stuff. BlackBerry Passport in the Wild. I have seen more BlackBerry Passports in the wild than iPhone 6 Pluses. Shocking, I know. To date I have seen five of the 6 and six Passports. Until a few months ago, I worked in downtown Toronto, in a building that had a few financial related companies. The first BB Passport I saw was in the elevator of the building. I ride the subway to my job (and my old job), which can skew demographics vs those drive and park in the city.
