My Drama in Takahama: December 2010
http://mydramatakahama.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
My Drama in Takahama. Tuesday, December 28, 2010. Kyoto, Day 2: Legends of the Golden Temple! Monday, December 27, 2010. Kyoto, Day 1. Unexciting title, but descriptive. Luckily, after the bumpy bus ride through central Nagasaki, we boarded a very comfy JR express train to Fukuoka, the place where I studied abroad and the place where we'd meet Sam's friend Sayaka and board the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto. Sunday, December 26, 2010. All this month, I’ve been teaching my 1st-4th grade elementa...

A Hope and a Future: November 2010
http://cecelia-ahopeandafuture.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
A Hope and a Future. Sunday, November 28, 2010. Friday, November 5, 2010. Sometimes it seems to me as though there is just one cause for fear after another here in Haiti. There is still a threat of cholera making its way into Port-au-Prince. Our streets have been disturbed by gunfire in broad daylight right outside our doors. And this week, for me at least, has been dominated by fear and anxiety over the approach of Hurricane Tomas. Bow thy heavens, O Lord, and come down! God is your refuge and strength,...

My Drama in Takahama: 卒業 Graduation
http://mydramatakahama.blogspot.com/2011/03/graduation.html
My Drama in Takahama. Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Caveat: Not all Japanese graduation ceremonies are the same, and my small countryside middle school obviously does things differently because the small size of the graduation class allows it to do a lot more for each student. Oh, and also, just in case the parents aren’t crying yet, they play very majestic music in the background as the diplomas are being distributed. Life with a soundtrack. Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, it does. T...This bl...

A Hope and a Future: January 2011
http://cecelia-ahopeandafuture.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
A Hope and a Future. Tuesday, January 11, 2011. Since I'm home for two weeks, you get lots of pictures! Sorry for the lack of posts in the last month, the internet has been out at the orphanage for quite a while. Back in September we got to meet Michelle Martelly (Sweet Mickey) while he was campaigning in our neighborhood. The kids were all really excited to meet him because he's such a popular musician, but they unanimously agree they don't want him as president! Goats are pretty cute. I'm writing this ...

A Hope and a Future: March 2011
http://cecelia-ahopeandafuture.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
A Hope and a Future. Thursday, March 3, 2011. Adventures in public transportation. This week has been a lot of fun. The kittens are getting bigger. They look less like rodents and more like cats now, which is exciting. And so we've been taking pictures. Of course. I wish I could say this was not my idea. I have a cat named after me, woohoo. Another awesome part of last week was that I got to see Mike Ruth! Sorry it's kind of dark, Haitian sun makes pictures very difficult. Where is her driver? Also 15 go...

My Drama in Takahama: 駅伝大会
http://mydramatakahama.blogspot.com/2011/02/blog-post.html
My Drama in Takahama. Thursday, February 10, 2011. There is, in Japan, a somewhat unique form of cross country racing called Ekiden 駅伝. Unlike most cross country races which are set distances and run by individuals, ekiden is run as a relay race, with each team member covering a different part of the course. No parts of the course are necessarily the same length. In the case of my town’s 駅伝. Kitsui) difficult because it was mostly uphill. We’re counting on you! 8216;Heard that you’re really fast! My Drama in Takahama: 五足の靴
http://mydramatakahama.blogspot.com/2011/01/blog-post.html
My Drama in Takahama. Tuesday, January 11, 2011. On the fine day of November 3, designated in Japan as ' Culture Day. All of my schools had a day off to enjoy, well, cultural activities. In my case, I called up some local JETs and told them about the mini-hike happening in my town on the 五足の靴. Gosoku-no-kutsu) trail, a roughly 5K hike through the hills and forests along sea coast.
