Unrefined by the hands that craft “perfection”. Yet she was beautiful. Hers was a raw talent, unperfumed, unpropped. She had no place in “sophisticated society”. For they had no hand in her. Yet she was beautiful. Her hair was matted to perfection. Beautiful down to her split ends. Her big brown eyes unaccented by mascara. Natural, untainted beauty.

If it sounds like poetry…. This is where i no longer bear the mark of my brother’s blood. This is where the putting of teeth together. And the pulling of lips apart results in the twinkling of happy eyes. And not a grimace of hatred and fear. This is where the sound of beating drums sing of a happy song. Where people come out to dance and not run in to hide. This is where explosions are firecrackers. Bringing joy…not death and sorrow. This is where i get the chance to worry. This is where my father smiles.
