Spinning in the dye pot

Spinning in the dye pot. Tuesday, 19 July 2016. Wool and silk scarf eco prints. My scientific training and my love of discovery mean I'm always experimenting. These scarves are 73% silk and 27% wool. The wool component means the images are sharper and the colours tend to be more intense. The scarves are a generous size, 60" by 11". Soft and snug, wearing one of these is sheer pleasure. There is a view of the entire mauve and green scarf on the previous post. Sunday, 17 July 2016. Sunday, 12 June 2016.

Spinning in the dye pot: June 2015

http://spinninginthedyepot.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Spinning in the dye pot. Sunday, 7 June 2015. Dramatic red and black mobius scarf. A acarf to keep away the winter chills. I'm finding that as soon as I weave one scarf I have ideas for the next and the next with the result that my couch is covered in trays of yarns grouped by colour. I keep spinning more to add to the trays. This one is was on the loom ready to weave when I thought of adding one strand of white boucle yarn to the mix to give the scarf an accent. Spinning in the dye pot: August 2015

http://spinninginthedyepot.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Spinning in the dye pot. Sunday, 23 August 2015. My carding has become very circumscribed by convention over the last few years. Yesterday I took a baby step towards freeing my carding. With some grey alpaca as the bread I made a sandwich with scraps of merino from previous cardings, spun it, loved it and kept making more until I'd used the whole bag of scraps. I've still got a long way to go. My next carding challenge is make every sandwich different and see what appears on the wheel. The energy release...

Spinning in the dye pot: May 2015

http://spinninginthedyepot.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Spinning in the dye pot. Wednesday, 20 May 2015. Autumn colours Mobius Scarf. I'm in two minds whether this is a scarf or a cowl. I've used different shades of mohair for the weft interspersed with tailspun Suri locks that I spun and dyed. It is wonderfully soft. The scarf is very versatile as it can be worn with the interwoven ends in front, on the shoulder of at the back. The cowl can also be deepened so that the fringed ends are mostly hidden. Monday, 4 May 2015. WOW mobius woven scarf. The scarf has ...

Spinning in the dye pot: February 2016

http://spinninginthedyepot.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html

Spinning in the dye pot. Monday, 8 February 2016. A month before Christmas my grandson discovered a new way of weaving in a children's book. He was very excited about this idea. So on the first morning of the grandkids' holiday with me this summer we made looms and began weaving. We'd woven several times before but never with a loom. The next morning they finished. Just look at the concentration. The shoe boxes with iceblock sticks worked well for the older two. Offered some bunny I thought fine, that wo...

Spinning in the dye pot: June 2016

http://spinninginthedyepot.blogspot.com/2016_06_01_archive.html

Spinning in the dye pot. Sunday, 12 June 2016. Finally beautiful printed scarves. After 5 months of experimenting, I was confident enough to purchase some silk scarves and begin eco printing them with the idea of selling my work. Since I showed them at Thames Creative Fibre last week and uploaded some to my Felt shop they have been selling like hot cakes. These have all sold but I will put more photos in more recent blogs. Silk eco print experiments. I tested many kinds of leaves. Here are peach. The set...

I reviewed repeatedly to assure no repetition. At least 10 songs make more than one appearance. There are tracks I clearly did not include–or mean to anyway–songs I barely even know. Spinning in the Teacups

Spinning in the Teacups. Beautiful things and thoughts, as well as stories from my life. July 10, 2014. I love this time of year. Mistletoe, Christmas trees, twinkle lights, hot chocolate, and romance. It's Christmas in July and there are Christmas sales in online stores and Christmas movies on TV. This week, and as the Fourth of July holiday weekend was winding down, I have been able to enjoy some holiday movies. It's a joyful sobfest each time because I love romance and Christmas so much.
