South Sister, OR 1988
http://www.splattski.com/1980s/south_sister/index.html
South Sister, Oregon. A backpack trip to Green Lake and a climb of Oregon's South Sister. Mariel's first glaciated- peak at 6 years old. Team: John and Mariel. Note: click images to see a larger version in a new window. Mariel came to visit me in Eugene. I had frequently taken Mariel for trips to the mountains, but this one would be different. The two of us were headed for the South Sister, the glaciated volcano at the left of this picture. I had vague memories of climbing this peak when I was 14.

Alice Lake backpack; Parks and Snowyside, 2008
http://www.splattski.com/2008/alice_loop/index.html
The girls get out for a long hike in the Sawtooths, with a few summits. August 15-17, 2008. Team: Jazz and Julie. Parks Peak- 10,208' (John, August 15). Snowyside Peak- 10,651' (Julie and John, August 16). Note: click images to see a larger version in a new window. We hadn't done a family trip yet this year, so after some delicate persuasion, we convinced Jazz, 15, that this really was a good idea. Jazz did this same trip back in 2001. Tom rates this Class III. But I think with just a bit of work I c...
Storm Peak 1997
http://www.splattski.com/1990s/storm_peak/index.html
A bike ride / hike / climb of Storm Peak in the Lick Creek range near McCall, Idaho. Team: Richard and John. Note: click images to see a larger version in a new window. This was probably the trip where Richard and John refined their technique: They both hike in, Richard catches dinner, and John explores the next ridge, peak, or basin. Then they hike out and drive home. Barbecue the fish while swilling Richard's home brew on the deck. Ah, Life! With a pack full of trout, it was time to head home.

Idaho Alpine: First Trip to the Copper Area.
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2011/12/first-trip-to-copper-area.html
Friday, December 9, 2011. First Trip to the Copper Area. We took a trip up to Bull Trout and skied the North side and the SE side. Pretty good coverage for the first week of December. The picture above shows Copper. The top is pretty bare, but I hear that the snow on the other side is pretty awesome! Hike up and over and get back to me! We skinned up and over and decided to ski one of the North side shots since it was stable and the snow was quite a bit better. December 12, 2011 at 12:35 PM.
Idaho Alpine: Burnt River
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2011/10/burnt-river.html
Monday, October 10, 2011. As some recovery from my Borah trip. We hit up some sweet Oregon limestone. We made the approach to the French Gulch spire. We racked up a couple of pitches before the sun warmed up a couple of hornet's nests and they wouldn't leave us alone. We didn't climb anything harder than 5.9. Which was perfectly fine with me! I noticed this before at some of the possible miner's homesites. By the time the river is down, the apples will probably have fallen. With a drill, $50 in hangers a...
Idaho Alpine: 4/20 Weekend at Hell's
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2012/04/420-weekend-at-hells.html
Sunday, April 22, 2012. 4/20 Weekend at Hell's. We went to Hell's Canyon and met up with Yoder and crew. Dave puts on the 4/20 event and there was a good turn out. Climbed up at Sleeping Monster wall. It has steep slabs that made my brain hum! Great weekend to be out. Also great for the ticks, snakes and poison ivy! The ticks are almost as big as a power pole. Can you see the Sleeping Monster? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In Memory of Damon Blacksmith (1964-2008). There was an error in this gadget.
Idaho Alpine: October 2011
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 28, 2011. We helped to clean up the Black Cliffs this past weekend. We also helped to fix some erosion issues. There was a nice turn out. The Boise Climbers Alliance. Did a great some of organizing the event. I hope to get out this weekend and enjoy some of our work! Monday, October 10, 2011. As some recovery from my Borah trip. We didn't climb anything harder than 5.9. Which was perfectly fine with me! With a drill, $50 in hangers and bolts I can upgrade the Slab and give the two right c...
Idaho Alpine: May 2011
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 29, 2011. Bench to Fishhook Ski Traverse. Mark, Jared, Chris and I started at the main trailhead at around 8 am and took the Bench Lakes trail. We walked in ski boots for a mile or so. There is a lot of snow left up in the Sawtooths, but the trails are choked with debris in the lower elevations where there is no snow. We skinned past the trail to the lower Bench lake and continued onward and upward. We then booted across the narrow ridge below the Thumb. Almost to the Thumb! Jared, Chris, Bob...
Idaho Alpine: Bugaboos Trip (Part 1)
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2013/09/bugaboos-trip-part-1.html
Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Bugaboos Trip (Part 1). Bob Jahn and I had planned this trip for quite awhile and then waited to pull the trigger on going until the forecast was good for maximum climbing. This was important since I had read trip reports from people that were in their tent for a good portion of the time they were there. The weather can be fickle and hard to predict how the storms from the coast will hit the Bugaboos. Camp at Applebee with Eastpost Spire behind. View my complete profile.
Idaho Alpine: March 2011
http://idahoalpine.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 30, 2011. After watching the weather for the last two weeks, I decided that yesterday would be the best opportunity to go down to the Ruby mountains and ski the TC couloir. I have never been in the Rubies. There seems to be a lot of motorized recreation. In fact, we were the only backcountry skiers NOT using a helicopter. Here is the trailhead. There are so many coolies to explore here that if I lived here, my car would be here a lot! We did it as a day-trip. It made for a long day, ...
A CASCOPORRO!!!: enero 2009
http://acascoporroteam.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
