Squirrel Library: "Our Cats" by Harrison Weir [1889]
http://squirrellibrary.blogspot.com/2014/08/our-cats-by-harrison-weir-1889.html
A busy little squirrel musing about her own lovely library. Friday, 15 August 2014. Our Cats" by Harrison Weir [1889]. This is a very indulgent post as it is a well know fact amongst all who know me than I am a little [just a little mind you] cat MAD. Therefore I couldn't resist photographing this selection of wonderful and [in some cases] bizarre illustrations of cats from the book " Our Cats and all about them. Written and illustrated by Harrison Weir in 1889. Was the first published pedigree cat book.

A busy little squirrel musing about her own lovely library. Monday, 13 January 2014. From an original watercolour by E. W. Trick. Published by Valentine's and Sons Ltd. Some people really are very kind; an anonymous donor left a little packet of these delightful Welsh postcards in one of our departmental pigeon holes. They will be sent over to the Archives Department at our sister museum, St Fagans: Museum of National History. But I couldn't resist posting a selection of them on Squirrel Library first.

A busy little squirrel musing about her own lovely library. Friday, 21 December 2012. Snow by Margaret Tarrant. Sunday, 2 December 2012. A first book of nature. I have purchased this beautiful book as a Christmas gift for the two year old daughter of a very dear friend. The cover [of course] is why it appears here but all the illustrations are lovely. The artist is Mark Hearld and here's a few more examples of his work. Squirrel Library wins this year's ARLIS Christmas card competition! Try, try again :-).

A busy little squirrel musing about her own lovely library. Tuesday, 13 May 2014. The following photographs are from the book,. Twelve new designs of English butterflies. By Benjamin Wilkes [published in 1742]. This rare work consists solely of twelve engraved plates each depicting geometric arrangements of both butterflies and moths. Wilkes produced this profoundly beautiful work as member of the Aurelian Society. A. Is an archaic word for lepidopterist. A great fire broke out in Cornhill. Whose profess...

A busy little squirrel musing about her own lovely library. Wednesday, 19 March 2014. A day in the life' - a post for the Twitter event 'Museum Week UK'. 65279;. I begin my day by checking our general library inbox for any enquiries that we might have received over the weekend. This morning [as usual] there were quite a few but they were mercifully straight forward so didn’t take too long to answer. On Twitter and what treasures I have found [but more of that to come via Tweets from. Next, I count and...

Thursday, 12 September 2013. Career Paths and Networking. Back in July 2012 I attended the CILIP Career Development Group/New Professionals conference and had intended on blogging about it, but I never got round to it and now so much time has passed it doesn’t really seem worth it. Plenty of people who attended wrote up their own thoughts on the event, a couple of which you can read here. However I thought one of the sessions I attended might be useful to share as it focused on. Where are you now? Listse...

Thursday, 9 January 2014. Library Camp UK 2013 part 1. Last week I set off for Library Camp UK 2013. At the new Library of Birmingham. I’m not sure how many people were attending, but it certainly seemed as though there was a really large crowd gathered. If you’ve never heard of a Library Camp before, they are a series of 'unconferences'. Held around the UK. Free to attend, they operate an 'Open Space'. The first session I went to was run by @llordllama. The secret garden on floor 7. It focused on servic...

Thursday, 24 April 2014. Library Camp UK 2013 part 2. Slightly delayed part 2 of last November's Library Camp UK! Varied, TV, legal, NHS, government, cathedral, and museum of course! The session began with a discussion on the challenges of working in these types of environments and whether you still define yours...

Wednesday, 10 July 2013. CILIP Umbrella 2013 #ub13. Last week I went to CILIP’s big annual conference, Umbrella. For the first time thanks to a bursary from the Cataloguers and IndexersGroup. I will blog in more depth about some of the sessions later, but I wanted to get down some of my impressions of the event as a whole. Biddy Fisher giving the opening address at Umbrella. Wednesday, 3 June 2015. It's been a while . It's been over a year since I last posted on this blog. Things have been so busy, and I was a little distracted posting on 23 Llyfrgellydd. So it's been a bit neglected. However, I have good intentions to resume, I'm in the process of chartering. And plan on using it to chart my progress and reflect. I'm also enrolled on the CILIP Leadership Programme. So it will be a good opportunity to share my experience of taking part. Links to this post. Its been a while .

squirrellinkenya | Naive musings of a privileged westerner
Naive musings of a privileged westerner. September 3, 2012. I left Kenya on the 14th August, just less than a month earlier than expected. I did so because I was suffering very badly from depression, which I have since managed to get medication for, and am now recovering from. There are multiple reasons for the depression, and still more reasons that it was necessary for me to leave Kenya prematurely. From Cambridge to Kenya is nearly eight thousand miles. That is, to put it in context, a. Simply walking...
