Faith, Folk and Charity. August 11, 2015. Còig: ‘Mary and the Soldier/The Boys of Portaferry’. I thought I’d share a few songs from people I enjoyed at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival this past weekend. One band I really liked was Còig. From Cape Breton. Here they are singing an old Irish folk song I first heard from Paul Brady. 8216;Mary and the Soldier’. This entry was posted in Folk music. Meadowvale (revised): Chapter Twenty-Four. The Blind Harper – Faith, Folk and Charity
https://tachesterton.wordpress.com/2015/08/01/the-blind-harper
Faith, Folk and Charity. August 1, 2015. This is a light rewrite of the old Scottish folk song ‘The Blind Harper’. The earliest version in Francis James Child’s ‘The English and Scottish Popular Ballads: Vol. IV’ (1890) dates back to 1791, but there are many other versions. Emily Smith sang the song in 2005 on her CD ‘A Different Life’. She says in her liner notes:. The biggest change is that all the older versions, including Nic’s, refer to King Henry’s horse as his ‘wanton brown’...And when he got...

Tim Chesterton – Faith, Folk and Charity

Faith, Folk and Charity. September 3, 2016. Meadowvale (2016 revision): Chapter 2. There was a lot to do if I was going to be settled in and ready to start work at the end of the month. Someone else who came back to Meadowvale? I replied with a grin. Yeah, there are a few of us! I started out with their stuff, actually. My best friend Owen Foster learned to play at the same time as me, and their songs were the first ones we tried to learn. We tried really hard to sound like them . Did you do concerts?
