Stranded in the South

Stranded in the South. Far from Montana and a Missoula State of Mind. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Massaging My Mother's Feet. I just finished what has become one of the most soothing and rewarding routines of my day: giving my mother a foot and leg massage with shea butter from the Body Shop. I cannot fully communicate how relaxing, grounding, and centering this action is for me, and how wonderful and balanced I feel at the end of it. Sunday, July 08, 2012. Dee's Day of Fishing. A Stone's Throw: Lessons Learned From the Night

http://strandedinthesouth.blogspot.com/2011/07/lessons-learned-from-night.html

Life is bringing me to Austin which is really just a stone's throw from Montana, and it's a glass house, so what more could I ask? Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Lessons Learned From the Night. What I learned (was forcefully reminded of) last night:. Ernie is amazingly playful for a 20 lb teenage cat. Mojitos, while full of minty vitamin C goodness, do not actually contribute to restful sleep. Even the animals have the sense not to be up yet! Im confused. Why is Ernie traveling with you? An Von makes 12!

Life is bringing me to Austin which is really just a stone's throw from Montana, and it's a glass house, so what more could I ask? Sunday, July 08, 2012. Dee's Day of Fishing. Pic 1) The day began, as fishing days often do (so I'm told) at the ungodly early hour of 8:00 am. Well 8:00 really isn't all *that* early, but we still managed to be about 10 minutes late arriving at the dock. But Captain Norm is a patient, happy man, we slid into the water with no further delays, and we were off! Lake trout are f...

Life is bringing me to Austin which is really just a stone's throw from Montana, and it's a glass house, so what more could I ask? Sunday, June 24, 2012. No Longer Far From a Montana State of Mind. Where we stopped for a quick lunch and to pick up a friend of Jessie's whose Mom works there. I put James McMurtry on in the car on the way home, and drove the speed limit all the way- even when it was 25 mph- never bothered or stressed or rushed. The movie got out at 8:40, and when we left the theatre the...

Being: Fix -- Part Deux

http://barbaramuthglass.blogspot.com/2006/05/fix-part-deux.html

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Saturday, May 20, 2006. Fix - Part Deux. Pulled my repaired guy from the kiln this morning. It took me three 27 hour firings to do:. The first to tack the new elements in place with the glass face up;. The second to slump the base over the tacked on elements face down; and. The third firing to full fuse it all face down. Posted by Barbara Muth at 8:26 AM. Reflecting on life- real and imagined. Cowboy in Caracas (my friend's blog).

http://barbaramuthglass.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Sunday, December 25, 2005. End of the year. Ultimately I didn't get much new work done this year. I did manage to finish the piece on grief and get it juried into the Pilchuck auction. My work was rejected for a lot of other shows because of shitty images. I keep trying new photographers and they all suck. Despite all that, I managed to finish a piece for every member of my family this year, and hope that each piece works for them.

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Thursday, September 29, 2005. I can do something that is totally abstract. What aspect of myself do I portray? It's a struggle deciding where to go with this. Lots of sketches to consider. Posted by Barbara Muth at 1:44 PM. Tuesday, September 27, 2005. I have some older unfinished work that I need to finish up. Sometimes it is hard to finish up what you were working on when your mind has taken you elsewhere. Wednesday, September 07, 2005.

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Saturday, May 20, 2006. Losing my grip on Technology. So the fact that I am not on top of the game, that I have to cede the title of Queen of software problem solving to someone twenty years younger who works for me is somewhat disconcerting. (Not to mention that I haven't yet figured out how to deal internally with my not so new anymore role as boss.) And I really don't want to admit that it's really because I am slipping behind. About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Saturday, October 08, 2005. More on Code Switching. What does it mean to code switch? Told me to go to the store to get. I never used corn flour until I learned to make arepas while living in Venezuela. I would never call it anything but. You when you go to the store? That is not code-switching. It's just a slow transition from one language to the other. Posted by Barbara Muth at 9:04 PM. Mostly Glass- a virtual catalog of my work.

http://barbaramuthglass.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Monday, March 27, 2006. I have had two big challenges, to step up and change my focus from "research research research always first and foremost" to "how can our unit support everyone else". It was tough, because frankly I am always right and I don't get how most people don't see that. And research should come first. (Tongue by the way - firmly planted in my cheek). And I need to channel all that energy back into the studio. Maybe I...

Ceux qui conaissent bien l'art de l'alchimie. transmutent le verre en une nouvelle substance brillante en combinant du sable divisible et du natron soluble. Posted by Barbara Muth at 2:08 PM.

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Friday, February 17, 2006. Yesterday I also received notice that Out of Asia was juried into a local show. I didn’t expect that to happen as one of the jurors doesn’t care for my silver-fumed work. But I hadn’t wanted to submit any of the dwelling places work, or any of the work about emotions to this show. Life is full of surprises. Posted by Barbara Muth at 3:07 PM. http://barbaramuthglass.blogspot.com/2006/09/yet-another-rejection.html

About being an artist, being human, being part of more than just me. Monday, September 04, 2006. I have pretty much decided not to go, even if they do accept the piece. Still don't know whether or not I will continue doing the figure work. I need to evaluate whether or not the figures are essential to the piece. Taking a design class this fall will be helpful, especially combined with some artist critiques I intend to participate in. Posted by Barbara Muth at 8:53 PM. Up the noses of the emerge judges!

STRANDED; The Wife of a Caribbean Med Student. Friday, January 13, 2012. Reflections on Diversity: Ew, I'm such an American snob! While I was home for the holidays people kept asking me why I haven’t posted on my blog in a long while. I guess when I first got here I was 1) bored, and 2) having a difficult time adjusting to my new life as an islander. This blog is like my non-private journal that I share with everyone who cares to read it. For that I am grateful. The diversity on this island has changed me.

Stranded In The Southland

Stranded In The Southland. Sunday, July 18, 2010. Off To The Mountains. It's been over 100 in LA these days, so I decided to head for the high mountains to get in some more comfortable hiking. Usually I fill up the car before heading into the wilderness, but this time I decided that the 120 mile round trip to Mt. Baden-Powell probably wouldn't be a problem with the less than four gallons I had in the Prius (at 45 mpg, it should go 180 miles). Alas, who knew that the laws of physics applied to the Prius?

Stranded in the strait. In the densely forested hills above Ceuta, a Spanish enclave on the Moroccan coast, 57 young Indian immigrants await their fate in a shanty community they’ve built to avoid deportation. With lush visual style, the film accompanies them in their daily trials as they scramble to survive, waiting to cross the last 8 miles that separate them from Europe. ¿Will they make it there? That is the logline of our documentary film in phase of editing and seeking funds. ONLY 5 DAYS LEFT! Name ...
