East Asian history, culture and sights! I realize that I haven’t put up a lot of my pictures from China, so I thought I’d take a moment to share a few that I sometimes use as the background on my computer. These pictures remind me of the awe I felt at the grandeur of these places. To give you some scale, one of those small people in the background can stand upright in the Buddha's ear. These are the grottos at Luoyang. Each of the 'caves' in the picture actually contain statues of Buddha. Picture the fon...

Yonsei University | Asia Major
https://asianmajor.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/yonsei-university
East Asian history, culture and sights! Finally there is sunshine this week! I am so absolutely thrilled about this because now I get to take good pictures of the university campus. Baekyang Hall, my main classroom building - the one on the other side of campus. New Millennium Hall, my other classroom building - the one 3 minutes from my dorm. There were supposed to be more pictures, but WordPress is slow today so I’ll upload them some other time. Or it could be that it nearly hit 90 today.

East Asian history, culture and sights! 8220;Islam in Imperial China”. It’s been a while! I feel this blog should come with a disclaimer: Updates Erratically. This semester (my last one at Agnes Scott! This is a scene from Mohammad's most dramatic revelation, The Night Journey. During this journey he is taken to heaven and back again. This is the fantastic beast that Mohammad rides to heaven -a buraq. It had the body of a brilliant white horse with wings, and the face of a woman. Which squeezed them pret...

Sui – Goguryeo – Tang | Asia Major

East Asian history, culture and sights! Sui – Goguryeo – Tang. One of the most exciting and terrifying things about being a senior with a self-designed major is the required Independent Study. Picture the font twice as tall, read with a deep voice and a rumble of thunder in the background.) Now that I’ve finally got it approved, I’d like to share what I’m going to be researching for the next three months! Why exactly did the new Tang government decide to take up the wars again? CE stands for Common Era&#...

East Asian history, culture and sights! It has been raining nearly constantly since I got to Korea, which I hear is actually preferable to the normal scorching-hot weather they had been experiencing. I don’t really mind all that much, because I love my umbrella and there hasn’t been much to do until classes start anyway. But it is really fantastic to be back in Seoul! 8211; even if they’re small, but connected to the lobby is a small area with a convenience store, a burger place, a florist, and a c...

Curry in Korea | Asia Major
https://asianmajor.wordpress.com/2011/07/15/curry-in-korea
East Asian history, culture and sights! Food in Korea is fabulous. While I’ve run into some spicy stuff (I’m really sensitive to spicy) I have yet to actually eat something here that I flat-out disliked. And in one very special case, I went back for more and asked for more spicy. Conveniently located right next to a Mister Donut. I only remembered to take the picture AFTER I had started eating - it smells so good! First Day of Classes! Or it could be that it nearly hit 90 today. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

First Day of Classes! | Asia Major
https://asianmajor.wordpress.com/2011/06/28/first-day-of-classes
East Asian history, culture and sights! First Day of Classes! Super excited about today! I managed to get in to all of the classes I wanted, and they look awesome! YISS is a six-week program, and the maximum number of classes you can take is three. It’s a shame, because I wanted to take Korean language classes too, but I guess I’ll just have to pick it up here and there. First Period 9:00-10:40 Intro to Environmental Science. Second Period 11:00-12:40 Premodern Korean History. They went to churches in Be...
